The Winnipeg Jets gave up 12 minor penalties, and 39 minutes of total PIM against the Sabres who had 15 minutes of penalized minutes tonight. They pick up a single point but drop a wild 6-5 OT decision in Buffalo Tuesday night.

"We need to keep the game five on five," said Head coach Claude Noel. "You can't give the other team 12 penalties and expect to get two points.

"We would have liked to get two points here and it was within our grasp. I think we shot ourselves in the foot because we were in the box most of the time."

Bryan Little finally found the scoreboard tonight as he picked up a pair of goals and seven shots in 22:20 minutes of play tonight.

Tanner Glass picked up a Gordie Howe hat-trick on the night with a goal, assist and a fight while Dustin Byfuglien and Blake Wheeler each added a pair of points in the loss.

The Jets will head home after their long road trip to take on the Florida Panthers Thursday night. Game time is 7:30 pm on TSN-JETS.

Mark Flood got the ball rolling for the Jets at 4:48 of the first period. Jim Slater started the play on a Sabres turnover, passed the puck behind his back to Tanner Glass who dished it over to Flood in the slot. Flood made no mistake to put that one past Ryan Miller.

Just 66 seconds later, off a face-off beside Miller, Blake Wheeler was behind the net and was able to feed Bryan Little in front of the net who fired the puck into the back of the net to give the Jets a 2-0 lead. Andrew Ladd picked up the second assist on the play.

Less than a minute later, Alex Burmistrov took the game's first penalty of the night for charging. The Jets were able to kill off the penalty only for Nik Antropov to get the gate just after it expired putting the Sabres back on the powerplay.

Derek Roy got the Sabres on the board on the power play thanks to a Tyler Myers slap shot going wide. Just 11 seconds later, Corey Tropp took a shot on net and sent his own rebound to the back of the net fooling Pavelec and tying the game at 2-2.

Then at 11:25, Tanner Glass put the Jets back on top 3-2 from Kyle Wellwood.

Then with Jordan Leopold in the box for the Sabres giving the Jets their first power play of the night, Dustin Byfuglien got caught in the neutral zone and turned the puck over to the Sabres. Jason Pominville raced in on net and snapped one past Pavelec to tie the game shorthanded at 13:06.

The Jets found themselves killing off a 5-on-3 penalty to finish off the first period but the game remained tied 3-3. Shots were 19-12 in favour of the Sabres.

Bryan Little gets the Jets back on top scoring his second of the season and second of the night. Byfuglien blasted a slap shot on net that sailed wide and bounced off the boards and onto Little's stick. Little sends the puck into the net at 1:07 on the PP. Stapleton draws the second assist on the play.

Later in the period, Glass and Cody McCormick dropped the gloves in the slot creating even more energy on the ice than there already was. Glass threw a nice right hook and split open McCormick. Both take five minute fighting majors.

With Ladd in the box for holding, Thomas Vanek was able to even things up  4-4 for the Sabres at 15:48. The second period came to a close with the game knotted at four. The Sabres led 28-24 on the shot clock.

Byfuglien doesn't waste much time to get the Jets back on top as he beats Miller high glove side just 48 seconds into the final frame. Wheeler picks up the assist on the Jets fifth goal of the night.

The Jets continued their penalty troubles as they put themselves down two men for the third time of the game. Roy fires one under the crossbar on the two man advantage with 7:09 to play in the game. Roy's second goal of the night, ties the game once again at 5-5.

Time ran out on regulation to force overtime. Shots after 60 minutes were 42-30 in favour of the Sabres.

With under a minute to play in overtime, Wheeler took a hooking penalty giving the Sabres yet another chance on the power play, this time a 4-3 opportunity. Thomas Vanek was able to capitalize on the Jets 12th penalty of the night as he redirected a shot from Jason Pominville to take the OT winner on the PP.

After 64:35, the shots on goal were 45-31 for the Sabres.

The Jets will finally head home after a long 14 day road trip to take on the Florida Panthers Thursday night at the MTS Centre. Game time is 7:30pm on TSN-JETS or on TSN-Radio 1290.
