Jets can 'Canes 3-1

Wednesday, 06.08.2014 / 4:52 AM

Chris Mason turned aside 20 of 21 shots on net to help the Jets take down the Hurricanes by a score of 3-1 in Carolina on Friday night.

Evander Kane started things off for the Jets scoring his 9th of the season at14:46 of the first period and Andrew Ladd added one of his own in the second. Bogosian tallied a pair of assists on the night including one from Bryan Litttle's empty net goal.

The Jets will wrap up their three game road trip in Boston against the Bruins on Saturday night. Catch the game on CBC at 6:00 pm or listen to it on TSN Radio 1290.

FIRST PERIOD

Zach Bogosian took the game's first penalty of the night as he drilled Tuomo Ruutu into the boards getting called for interference. Chris Mason was tested early but was able to keep the door shut and kick aside the four shots the Canes had on the man advantage.

On the other end of the ice, Cam Ward had to be on his game as the Jets put the pressure on through the first half of the first period.

Evander Kane struck first for the Jets as he and Blake Wheeler broke into the Canes zone on a 2-on-1 opportunity. Kane looked for Wheeler who was in the slot but decided to snap a wrist shot over the glove side shoulder of Ward. 1-0 Jets at 14:46.

After 20 minutes of play, the Jets were on top 1-0 and led 14-7 on the shot clock.

SECOND PERIOD

The Hurricanes evened things up as Juri Tlusty is able to get past Dustin Byfuglien at the blueline and went one-on-one against Mark Stuart. Tlusty went upstairs on Mason tying things up at 5:17 of the second period.

Just 1:08 later, Andrew Ladd regained the lead for the visitors as he took a couple wacks and finally got his own rebound into the back of the net. Bogosian and Antropov picked up the assists on the play. Jets up 2-1.

The period came to an end with the score still at 2-1. The shots after 40 minutes were 27-11 in favour of the Jets.

THIRD PERIOD

The fast-paced game continued into the third period as the first half was filled with turnovers and chances on both ends of the ice with hardly any whistles. Even though it seemed like there were a lot of shots, the Jets had only connected on one and the Canes had five in the first ten minutes.

The Hurricanes continued to press as the time wound down on regulation. With 1:30 remaining, the 'Canes waived Ward to the bench, giving the visitors the extra attacker.

They came close with the extra man but Mason was able to poke the puck over to Bogosian to get it out of the zone. Bogosian dished it over to Little who made no mistake shooting the puck into the yawning cage for the win.

Jets take it by a score of 3-1 and will move on to play Boston in their final road game of the trip.

Catch the game in Boston at 6:00 pm on CBC or listen to it on TSN Radio 1290.
