Jets blanked in Montreal

Wednesday, 06.08.2014 / 4:52 AM

Max Pacioretty opened the scoring with under two minutes to play in the first period to make it 1-0 Habs. Emelin picked up a shorthanded goal on a two-on-one opportunity and Plekanec added some insurance on the power play.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped 23 of 23 shots on net while Carey Price stopped all 23 of the shots he saw to earn the shut out.

The Jets will have tomorrow to rest before getting back to work at home to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs Tuesday night. That one goes at 7:30 at the MTS Centre.

The energy in the Bell Centre was electric once the puck was dropped. The sound of the massive scoreboard shook the pressbox, it was so loud. You could also see the energy in the players in the first few shifts of the game.

Dustin Byfuglien took the game's first penalty of the night for goaltender interference at 3:31. The Habs fired two shots on Pavelec on the advatage but, no dice on a goal.

Nine minutes into the period, Pavelec drew a goaltender interference minor. The Jets rush started down the ice but there was no whistle until just before the Jets shot the puck past Carey Price.....but the goal was called back and the Jets went to the power play but were stunned that the whistle blew so late on a Canadiens penalty.

some HUGE chances on the other end for the Habs nearing the five minute mark but somehow, the puck never found the back of the net. Pavelec made a couple key saves and a couple despirate ones to keep the game scoreless.

With just under two mnutes to play, Max Pacioretty got the Habs on the board. Yannick Weber took the immediate shot from the point that Pavelec saved but the puck was knocked loose and Pacioretty was there to bank home the rebound. 1-0 Habs.  Shots after 20 minutes were 11-7 Montreal.

The Jets were on the power play early but things didn't go as planned as the Habs struck again, this time short handed at 7:50. Tomas Plekanec raced across the blueline on a 2-on-1 opportunity with Alexei Emelin.
Plekanec sent a cross-ice pass that Pavelec tried to slide over to save, but just missed it. 2-0 Habs.

Just over four minutes later, at 11:28, the Habs went on the power play with Wheeler in the box for roughing. Plekanec found the back of the net earning his second point of the afternoon. Tomas Kaberle and P.K Subban assisted on the Habs third goal of the day. 3-0.

In another attempt to send a spark to his team, Wheeler dropped the gloves with P.K Subban, just under four minutes to play in the middle frame.

The Jets only managed to get eight shots on goal during the second period and could not get themselves on the scoreboard. Habs led 3-0 int he game and 22-15 in shots.

Some decent chances on both ends of the ice but the Jets' scoring woes continued in this game as they just couldn't find the back of the net. Early in the final period, Antti Miettinen had the best chance down low right at the post. With Price down and out, all he had to do is lift the puck up and over his pad into the empty cage but just couldn't get the lift on it.

At the other end, The Habs had a great chance with the wide open net but just the shot went wide on the one time feed and the 3-0 lead stood.

Thats how this one would end after 60 minutes of play as the Jets go home with a 2-2 road-trip outing.
