Keith McCambridge named Head Coach of Winnipeg's AHL Affiliate
The Winnipeg Jets are pleased today to announce Keith McCambridge has been named Head Coach of Winnipeg’s new American Hockey League affiliate in St. John’s, NL.
McCambridge, 37, becomes the first Head Coach since the former Manitoba Moose franchise relocation from Winnipeg, MB to St. John’s, NL. The Thompson, MB native held the position of Assistant Coach of the Moose for the past two seasons where he helped the team to a record of 83-63-6-8 over that time. This past season, working with current Jets Head Coach Claude Noel, McCambridge and the Moose advanced to the North Division Final of the 2011 Calder Cup Playoffs where they were eliminated in seven games by the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Prior to joining the Manitoba Moose in 2009, McCambridge spent six seasons with the East Coast Hockey League’s Alaska Aces originally as a player-Assistant Coach before taking on the role of Head Coach. As Head Coach of the Aces in 2007-08, Alaska finished with a record of 41-26-5 and reached the third round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs. The following season McCambridge guided the Aces to an improved record of 45-24-3, as well as a berth in the Kelly Cup Finals where Alaska lost in seven games to the South Carolina Stingrays. McCambridge won the Kelly Cup in 2006 as a player-Assistant Coach when Alaska defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators in five games.
McCambridge also had an 11-year playing career as a professional where he played as a defenceman for eight different teams in the AHL, IHL, and ECHL. He compiled 627 minor league games for the Saint John Flames (AHL), Las Vegas Thunder (IHL), Long Beach Ice Dogs (IHL), Providence Bruins (AHL), Manitoba Moose (IHL), Houston Aeros (AHL), Cleveland Barons (AHL), and Alaska Aces (ECHL). McCambridge played four years of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League for the Swift Current Broncos and Kamloops Blazers. He was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the eighth round, 201st overall in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
