2011 Young Stars Tournament: Five Jets to Watch

Jason Gregoire – LW

Jason Gregoire is a Winnipeg-native and will be wearing the NHL jersey of his hometown team at the 2011 YoungStars tournament. Last year, Gregoire finished his collegiate career at the University of North Dakota after three NCAA seasons where he compiled 109 points (57g & 52a) in 120 games with the Fighting Sioux. Lining up on the left side, the hopeful Jets winger plays a smart, safe, and understated game while routinely chipping in offensively.

Carl Klingberg – RW

Carl Klingberg played with four different pro teams last season: Frolunda and Timra of the Swedish Elite League, the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League, and one game with the Atlanta Thrashers. He’s the only player on the Jets’ rookie squad that has appeared in an NHL game. The majority of his 2010-11 season was spent in Sweden where he put up eight points (5g & 3a) in 49 games split between Frolunda and Timra. Klingberg plays a high energy game and adds physicality to any team he suits up for.

Mark Scheifele – C

On June 24th, 2011, Mark Scheifele became the first ever draft pick of the current Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club when he was chosen seventh overall from the OHL’s Barrie Colts. Scheifele’s selection in the NHL Entry Draft capped off a strong 2010-11 season when the highly skilled, playmaking centre recorded 75 points (22g & 53a) in 66 games with the Colts. Other highlights of Scheifele’s season was leading all OHL rookies in assists and leading Canada with six goals during the Under-18 tournament in April.

Ivan Telegin – LW

Ivan Telegin was drafted in the fourth-round by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, the Russian-born power forward improved upon his rookie OHL numbers by scoring 61 points (20g & 41a) in 59 games with the Saginaw Spirit last season. Telegin is a swift skating, 6’3” winger that adds both size and skill to his team’s lineup.



Zach Redmond – D

Zach Redmond suited up in three games for the AHL’s Chicago Wolves last April after wrapping up his fourth year with Ferris State University. The skilled blue liner holds the distinction of leading all Ferris State defencemen in scoring in each of his four NCAA seasons. Redmond’s strengths are his puck moving abilities and strong two-way play.
