The Winnipeg Jets close-out the 2011 Young Stars Tournament against the Vancouver Canucks today in Penticton, BC. Winnipeg enters this game after a rest day, while Vancouver played yesterday, topping the Sharks 5-3 in the matinee game.

The Jets currently sport a 1-1 record, having first shutout the San Jose Sharks 4-0 on Monday night, and then getting shutout by the Edmonton Oilers 2-0 on Tuesday night. On the other hand, the Canucks dropped their opening game to the Oilers 7-2, edged the Flames on Monday 5-3, and sunk the Sharks 5-3 on Wednesday.

Having gone scoreless against the Oilers in their second game, the Jets are lea in scoring by the two point performances of Levko Koper (2g, 0a) and Mark Scheifele (1g, 1a) on Monday night. Goaltenders Edward Pasquale and Chris Carrozzi split the two starts, with Pasquale shutting out the Sharks, and Carrozzi allowing two goals against the Oilers.

The young stars of Vancouver are fairly familiar to hockey fans in Manitoba. Five of the Canucks spent the 2010-11 season with the Manitoba Moose (Jordan Schroeder, Bill Sweatt, Stefan Schneider, Yann Sauve, Kevin Connauton). The Canucks are led in scoring by the three-headed monster of left-wing Darren Archibald (2g, 1a), centre Nathan Longpre (2g, 1a), and right-wing Kellan Tochkin (1g, 2a). The Vancouver net has been tended by Karel St. Laurent and David Honzik who each have one win, while Honzik was in the crease for the 7-2 loss to the Oilers.

The tournament-closing game will be played at 1:30 PM Central, and can be watched live at WinnipegJets.com or listen to the call on Sports Radio 1290. Stay tuned to WinnipegJets.com for game highlights and post-game summary.
