Quinton Howden scored twice while Tanner Pearson and Winnipeg Jets prospect Mark Scheifele each tallied goals to help lead Canada to a 4-0 win over Finland to claim the bronze medal in Calgary.

Goalie Mark Visentin stopped all 27 shots, including one on a penalty shot to pick up the shutout.

Tanner Pearson opened the scoring at 9:08 of the first period, when he redirected a great pass from Barrie Colts teammate, Scheifele on the power play.

The two connected again in the second period this time it was Pearson dishing the puck to Scheifele who made no mistake finishing the play to make it 2-0 Canada.

Howden scored the next two goals to put the game away and help capture the bronze medal.

Canada has earned 28 medals in the history of the tournament and have won medals in the last 14 World Junior Championships.

Gold Medal game

Sweden finally ended a long 31-year drought as they captured their first World Junior gold medal since 1981.

Mika Zibanejad scored the unbelievable overtime winner as Sweden marched to a 1-0 triumph over Russia on Thursday. The Swedes out-shot Russia 58-17.

10:09 into overtime, Zibanejad made Nikita Kucherov pay as he stole the puck along the boards and raced up the right wing past the Russian defense. He got the puck to his backhand flipped it up and over goalie Andrei Makarov.

Jets prospect Ivan Telegin missed the semi-final game against Russia as he suffered an injury in the quarter-final game against the Czech Republic when his hand was hit by a puck. He was able to play in the gold medal game however, he did not convert any points for Russia.

The 19-year old played in six games in the tournament scoring once short handed and added an assist. He had nine shots on net and 12 penalty minutes. He will return to the Barrie Colts with a silver medal.
