His talent did not go unnoticed as the Atlanta Thrashers drafted the young Russian in the fourth round (101st overall), at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

During his sophomore season, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound centre found a more consistent game as a playmaker, recording 20 goals, 41 helpers for 61 points in 59 games. After a 12 game playoff stint with the Spirit, posting two goals and 10 points, Telegin was traded to the Barrie Colts to join another Jets prospect Mark Scheifele.

On July 27, 2011, Telegin signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Winnipeg Jets. He attended the Jets rookie camp in the fall and played in the pre-season home opener against the Blue Jackets, a 6-1 victory in which he scored his first NHL pre-season goal. The 19-year-old was assigned to the Barrie Colts for further development prior to the start of the regular season.

Telegin tallied his first goal of the season on November 3rd in Windsor where he notched a goal and two helpers to help lead his team to a 5-2 victory over the Spitfires.
