The American Hockey League announced Wednesday that St. John’s IceCaps goaltender Eddie Pasquale has been named to the AHL’s All-Rookie Team for the 2011-2012 season.
In 34 games, the rookie netminder has posted a 21-11-1 record with a sparkling 2.36 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage with four shutouts.
The Toronto native also was named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 12, finishing the week with a 3-0-0 record (including a shutout), a 1.32 goals-against average and a .954 save percentage.
The 21-year-old started the season by winning his first six starts, and has improved his goals against average every month of the year, going from a 3.49 goals-against average in November to a 1.58 mark in March. The former 2009 fourth round draft pick of the Atlantia Thrashers also had a seven-game winning streak from Jan. 25 to Feb. 18.
Pasquale was originally drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round of the 2009 entry draft (117th overall).
Joining Pasquale on the AHL All-Rookie Team are defencemen Matt Donovan (Bridgeport) and Cade Fairchild (Peoria), and forwards Cory Conacher (Norfolk), Tyler Johnson (Norfolk) and Gustav Nyquist (Grand Rapids).
