Jets announce year-end award winners
The Winnipeg Jets were pleased to announce the winners of their inaugural season year-end awards prior to their game versus the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at MTS Centre.
The first award of the night was awarded to Jim Slater, who received the Staffmax Staffing & Recruiting Community Service Award. Slater has quickly become one of the most recognizable Jets for his tireless involvement in numerous community-benefiting events. As an effort to get involved in the community and meet Winnipeggers, Slater started a promotion called “Take a Jet to Work Day” where he voluntarily spends his days-off visiting Winnipeggers at work. He has visited a fire hall, police station, local welding company and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He is also actively involved in the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation and took a trip to the Children’s Hospital during the holiday season this past December.
The McDiarmid Lumber Three Stars Award was handed out to goaltender Ondrej Pavelec. Pavelec has been recognized game-after-game for his solid play and highlight reel performances. He received a star of the game award 12 times at MTS Centre this season with five of those times being first-star honors.
Lastly, the Dan Snyder Memorial award is awarded each year to the Winnipeg Jets player who embodies perseverance, dedication and hard work without reward or recognition, so that his team and teammates might succeed.Mark Stuart with the award. Stuart has proven he is truly one of the team’s hardest working players, sacrificing body and spirit for the team by dishing out the big hit or going down to block the shot. As a leader on the Jets roster, he has made the connection between community, commitment and leadership. Past winners of the Dan Snyder Memorial Award are Jets forwards Bryan Little and Jim Slater.
Representatives from the Jets corporate partners were on hand for the pre-game ceremonies to present the award winners with their trophies.
