OHL Prospect Update
An update from the Winnipeg Jets prospects in the Ontario Hockey League
Mark Scheifele: Winnipeg Jets first pick (7th overall) at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft wrapped up his season with 23 goals, 40 assists for 63 points in 47 games played, and had 36 penalty minutes. He tied with Tanner Pearson for the team lead in plus/minus with +21 for the season.
The Kitchener, Ontario native played seven games with the Winnipeg Jets this season and tallied his first NHL goal.
The Barrie Colts are well into the Ontario Hockey League playoffs after knocking off the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in six games in the first round. As of April 11, 2012, the Barrie Colts are up two games to one on the Ottawa 67’s in the semi-final best of seven series.
So far, Scheifele has recorded four goals and six assists in nine playoff games with a plus- 3 rating. He has 10 penalty minutes so far.
Ivan Telegin: Telegin was drafted by Atlanta in the 4th round (101st overall) at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The 20-year old from Novokuznetsk, Russia played for the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL for two years before being traded to the Barrie Colts. In his first season as a Colt, Telegin finished with 35 goals, 29 assists and 64 points, in 46 games, just one less than teammate Mark Scheifele. He was third on the team in plus/minus with a +19.

Julian Melchiori: Melchiori was drafted by Atlanta in the 3rd round (87th overall) at the 2010 NHL Entry Drat. Melchiori started the season with the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL and was traded to the Oshawa Generals midseason where he played 26 games and recorded 17 points, all assists.
The Oshawa Generals were eliminated in the first round of the OHL playoffs 4-2 to the Niagara Ice Dogs. In six games, Melchior picked up two goals and an assist.
Cody Sol: Sol was drafted by Atlanta in the 5th round (125th overall) at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defenceman just finished his fifth season in the OHL, spending the last two with the Kitchener Rangers. He finished the season this year with 15 goals, 23 assists for 38 points in 62 games. He also posted an impressive plus-minus of +35 and totaled 178 penalty minutes.
The Rangers are in the middle of the second round of the OHL playoffs after defeating the Owen Sound Attack 4-1. As of April 12th, 2012, they are tied 2-2 with the Plymouth Whalers in the semifinals. So far Sol has tallied two goals and five assists in nine games.
Austen Brassard: The Winnipeg Jets selected Brassard in the 5th round (149th overall) at the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Brassard just finished his third season with the Belleville Bulls of the Ontario Hockey League. This season he improved to 27 goals and 51 points in 64 games played with 71 penalty minutes.
The Bulls finished in 7th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 35-32-1-0 record with 71 points. They faced the Ottawa 67’s in the first round and were defeated 4-2 in the best of seven series. Through six games, Brassard totaled a goal and an assist.
