Jets assign Mark Scheifele to IceCaps
The Winnipeg Jets today announced they have assigned forward Mark Scheifele to the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League. Scheifele will now report to St. John’s where we he will join the team on Sunday, April 22nd.
Scheifele, 19, played in 47 games with the Barrie Colts this season to earn 63 points (23G, 40A) and 36 penalty minutes. The right-handed centre played in 13 playoff games with the Colts and earned 12 points (5G, 7A) before Barrie was eliminated in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals.
The Kitchener, ON native also played in seven games with the Winnipeg Jets this season and scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 19/11 in Toronto against the Maple Leafs.
He was originally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round, seventh overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
