Prospect Q&A: Morgan Rielly
Projected fifth-overall draft pick Morgan Rielly talks to media at the NHL Scouting Combine.
How was the testing aspect of the combine?
-"I'm pretty happy with how it went but it was a battle for sure."
How did the interviews go?
-"I met with 24 teams and was pretty happy with how it went. It was a whole lot of talking so it's pretty tiring at the end of the week."
Did some of the questions surprise you?
-"I was pretty prepared, they were pretty standard, not too off the board which I was happy about. I was pretty prepared for it.
How much did your ACL injury factor into both the interviews and the testing?
-"I certainly had a lot of questions about how it's doing but I didn't have any problems with it today and it feels good."
What sort of advice do you get from your fellow Moose Jaw Warriors about this experience?
-"Enjoy it and be true to who you are and be honest.
What's been the best part of the experience so far?
-"To be able to hang out with people that I played at the U18's with on Team Canada has been very fun. I'm just trying to enjoy it and I'm happy it's all over with."
Will you go visit with a few NHL teams who have camps coming up?
-"I will see a few teams but I'm not too focused on that right now but will be going around a little bit."
What type of player are you?
-"A two-way defenceman pretty good skater, pretty good puck skills who can play the power play."
How much attention do you pay to the Central Scouting rankings?
-"Not too much, I don't try to put too much concentration on that kind of stuff I just try to keep training hard and enjoying it."
