Pavelec wins 2011-12 TSN.ca POY Showdown Final
After seven weeks, 32 electrifying plays, four rounds of intense online voting, and over 1 million votes, Winnipeg Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec has laid claim to the best play of the season in the 2011-12 edition of the TSN Play of the Year Showdown Presented by Klondike.
Pavelec was up against Ottawa Senators forward Jason Spezza in the final but came out on top with an eye-catching play made against the Philadelphia Flyers. Defenceman Kimmo Timonen rang a slap shot towards the Jets net which Pavelec kicked away, leaving a big rebound. With the netminder down on his knees and on the opposite side of the crease, Flyers winger Jakub Voracek had a wide open net to score but Pavelec thought otherwise.
The 24-year-old netminder threw technique out the window and used his agility and lateral movement to push across the crease and make the save.
Last year's TSN Play of the Year Showdown winner was Jordan Eberle of the Edmonton Oilers.
Play of the Year Showdown is presented by Klondike on TSN.ca.
