Jets agree to terms with Derek Meech

The Winnipeg Jets are pleased to announce they have agreed to terms with defenceman Derek Meech on a new contract. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Meech, 28, spent the majority of the 2011-12 season recovering from injury. He played two games with the Winnipeg Jets and suited up for six with the St. John’s IceCaps where the Winnipeg, MB native recorded two assists. Meech also played in 15 post-season games with the IceCaps this past Calder Cup season and scored nine points (4G, 5A) and two penalty minutes.

The left-handed defenceman has played in 128 career NHL games between Detroit and Winnipeg for 16 career points (4G, 12A) and 43 penalty minutes.

He was originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the seventh round, 229th overall, in the 2002 NHL Draft.
