The 2012 Winnipeg Jets development camp wraps up on Friday, July 13th.

It's already the final day of the first Winnipeg Jets development camp. One last look at what's in store for the Jets' future until the regular rookie camp in the fall. The day started off a little later then the other four days with the pre-ice warm-ups starting at 10:00am and on-ice starting at 10:45am.

I knew it was going to be a busy one for fans just by looking at the parking lot- packed with cars! There were even cars with Brandon Wheat Kings car flags on top, probably here to watch the late invite Wheat Kings goaltender, Corbin Boes.

One side of the IcePlex stands was completely jammed packed with 832 people (capacity) with more standing inside watching from the glass. The two groups scrimmaged for about an hour, which was something they hadn’t done all camp. Coach Claude Noel and Keith McCambridge and a few of the assistant coaches looked on from the stands.

We caught up with Jimmy Roy, Director of Player Development one last time to get a sense of how the camp went overall.

“I think it was a good week,” said Roy. “I really enjoyed getting to know the young players. It was a good opportunity to be able to get on the ice with them and have some fun. I hope they really enjoyed it, I think they did. I’ve been getting some good feedback. I hope they can use this camp as an area in their summer workouts and in their progression and development and just keep going.

“I think now that it’s all over I’ll sit down with a few people to get some ideas on how to make it [development camp] better. I think there were a couple hiccups and things that I would change for next year but overall, I’m pretty happy.”

The players seemed all very happy with the camp overall and seemed to be leaving with a solid understanding of what it means to be a Winnipeg Jet and what the city is all about while building team bonds at the same time.

“You have to be very mature and professional and be willing to go that extra mile,” Scott Kosmachuk commented about the organization. “Everyone is going to be working that much harder so you have to really push yourself to get there.

“There are a lot of guys here that are willing to step in and help get you on the right path. The psychologist and nutritionist have been a big help too. It’s something to bring with you over the summer and use to get to the next level.”

Instead of the regular MTS Centre workout, the players were in for a special workout later in the afternoon. After the scrimmage and media session, they were taken to the RCMP office for an off-ice workout. There they were also shown a few exercises from the tactical unit.

After the RCMP team-building event, the players head back to their hotel to get ready for their final team dinner and the Winnipeg Goldeye’s baseball game. It’s the last time they would all be together until they return in Winnipeg for the regular rookie camp in September. It was a successful week all in all. All the young players seemed to learn a lot and like Roy said, it's something they will use as they move forward with their development.
