IceCaps agree to terms with Sawada and Arsene
The Winnipeg Jets, in conjunction with the St. John’s IceCaps, are pleased to announce they have agreed to terms with Raymond Sawada and Dean Arsene on American Hockey League contracts. As per club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Sawada, 27, played in 17 games with the IceCaps last season where he recorded three points (2G, 1A) and 14 penalty minutes. He also appeared in 15 Calder Cup Playoff games with St. John’s, earning six points (3G, 3A) and 10 penalty minutes. Sawada played in 52 games with the Manitoba Moose during the 2008-09 season where he accumulated 21 points (6G, 15A) and 31 penalty minutes. He also helped the team make the Calder Cup Finals playing in 22 post season games for eight points (3G, 5A). The Richmond, BC native has played in 11 career NHL games with the Dallas Stars where he earned one goal. Sawada was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round, 52nd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Arsene, 32, played in 63 games with the Portland Pirates last season where he accumulated 10 points (2G, 8A) and 110 penalty minutes. The left-handed defenceman has played in 513 career AHL games between Hartford, Hershey, Springfield, Peoria and Portland. In that time, the Murrayville, BC native recorded 79 points (13G, 66A) and 1115 penalty minutes. He has also played in 13 career NHL games with the Edmonton Oilers for 41 penalty minutes.
