Kosmachuk named OHL Player of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that Guelph Storm forward Scott Kosmachuk is the OHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 25 after leading the league with six goals in three games while adding two assists for eight points with an OHL-high plus-minus rating of plus-6.
Kosmachuk’s eight points in three games marks the best week of his three-year OHL career and led the Storm to three wins helping them maintain their position in third place in the Midwest Division with 35 points. His week began with a goal on Wednesday as part of an 8-0 win over the Mississauga Steelheads before claiming first star honours on Friday scoring twice including the game-winner plus an assist in the 3-2 win over the Erie Otters. He picked up first star honours again on Saturday night against the Ottawa 67’s with a four-point effort where he scored his first hat-trick of the season and second of his career while adding an assist as part of the 7-5 win.
Kosmachuk, an 18-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Storm and was selected in the third round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Winnipeg Jets. In 27 games this season, he has scored a team-high 18 goals including seven on the power play and has 14 assists for 32 points.
Also considered for the award this week was New York Islanders prospect Ryan Strome of the Niagara IceDogs who scored twice with six assists for eight points in three games, and Ottawa Senators prospect Matt Puempel of the Kitchener Rangers who scored four goals and two assists for six points in two games. In goal, Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Garret Sparks of the Storm went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory while posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .968.
