The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, in partnership with Hockey Canada, is proud to announce that Jets prospect Mark Scheifele has been invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp. The 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship will be hosted in Ufa, Russia and will begin on December 26 and run until January 5.

Scheifele,19, has played in 27 games this season with the Barrie Colts where he has already earned 44 points (21G, 23A) and 13 penalty minutes. He is currently seventh overall in OHL scoring and fifth overall in goals. On October 18/12, Scheifele earned a career-high six points (3G, 3A) in a single game against the Sudbury Wolves. So far this season, the Kitchener, ON native has recorded three hat tricks. He was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the first round, seventh overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Scheifele will be one of six returning players – including Dougie Hamilton (Toronto, Ont./Niagara, OHL), Scott Harrington (Kingston, Ont./London, OHL), Jonathan Huberdeau (St-Jérôme, Que./Saint John, QMJHL), Boone Jenner (Dorchester, Ont./Oshawa, OHL) and Ryan Strome (Mississauga, Ont./ Niagara, OHL) who helped Canada earn a bronze medal at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship in Alberta. A seventh potential returning player, Ryan Murray (White City, Sask./Everett, WHL), is unavailable due to an injury.

In total, 31 of the players named to the selection camp roster were drafted in either the 2011 or 2012 NHL Entry Drafts, including 13 first-round selections and eight second-round picks.
