The Winnipeg Jets are now through four of the six days allotted for training camp. The season opener is Saturday afternoon....that's only two more skates away. Just like Christmas, we count the sleeps, as do the players.

The Jets gathered at the MTS Iceplex this morning for about a 90 minute skate in front of a couple hundred of their loyal fans. First things that were noticed was that captain Andrew Ladd was not on the ice today. As eyebrows began to rise, the media was ensured that Ladd was not injured or sick, he had a personal matter to attend to. So don't jump to conclusions everyone, he will be back on the ice before you know it.

As for Nik Antropov, he was back with the Jets on the ice after he admit to injuring himself on ice during his time with the KHL. Antropov failed his medical last weekend and hasn't skated with the team until today.

"It's nice to get back skating with the boys, I had fun out there for sure," said Antropov. "We'll see how it responds but it felt good and I'm optimistic for the weekend."

"I knew before I came here. I wasn't ready so I just told the team, there's nothing to hide. I skated before the team, me and Stubby and Bogo and did a lot of skating and stuff."

Antti Miettinen did not skate for the second day in a row as he is reportedly out indefinitely due to an upper body injury that was suffered during Monday's training camp skate. He will not be a skater on Saturday's season opener.

There were a few moves on paper that were made Wednesday afternoon, however. The Jets were pleased to announce today that they claimed right winger Anthony Peluso off waivers. Peluso was placed on waivers by the St. Louis Blues. Peluso, 23, has played in 36 games with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League so far this season. In that time, the North York, ON native has recorded 11 points (5G, 6A) and 58 penalty minutes.

Peluso adds more size to the Jets bench, measuring in at 6'4", 234 pounds.

"He's a big guy that plays with weight," said Claude Noel. "He's fairly tough and the reports we get on him is that he's a decent skater that can play some minutes.

"So we add toughness and size which is good. His role is more of a fourth-line presence guy but the important thing for us is that he's able to play some minutes."

The other paper deal that went down at the Jets office today was the announcement of resigning veteran Jason Jaffaray.

Jaffray, 31, has played in 27 games with the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League so far this season. In that time, the left-winger has recorded 20 points (6G, 14A) and 21 penalty minutes. He has played in a career total 398 AHL games between Norfolk, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Manitoba, Abbotsford and St. John’s for 315 career points.

"Jason is a guy I've known from the past, I really like Jason, and he's having a good year," said Noel. "I think he's staying in St. John's at least for the time being then we'll reassess the situation as we move forward."
