Jason Kasdorf & Connor Hellebuyck earn major NCAA monthly honours
The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club are proud to announce several NCAA monthly honours being awarded to freshman goaltending prospects, Jason Kasdorf and Connor Hellebuyck. Kasdorf has been voted the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month and Rookie of the Month. Hellebuyck has been honoured with Hockey East’s Athletic Republic Player of the Month.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete and Winnipeg, MB product Jason Kasdorf has been voted the ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month and Rookie of the Month following a stellar February performance. Kasdorf was drafted by Winnipeg in the sixth round, 157th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Kasdorf led the Engineers to a 7-1-0 record through February with a 1.48 goals against average and a 0.940 save percentage. He only allowed 12 goals - just six at even strength - on 200 shots. Kasdorf has an 11-3-2 overall record, a 1.63 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. He has played each of the last 11 games since returning from an injury. He is currently fourth in the nation in goals against average and winning percentage (.750) and sixth in save percentage (.938). In 15 league contests, he is 10-2-2 with a 1.51 average and a .943 percentage.
This is the fourth time Kasdorf has been honoured by the league. He has been the Rookie of the Week twice and the Goaltender of the Week once.
Backstopping the University of Massachussetts-Lowell River Hawks, freshman goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has earned Hockey East’s Athletic Republic Player of the Month honours for his outstanding play in February. Hellebuyck, originally from Commerce, MI, was drafted by Winnipeg in the fifth round, 130th overall, in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
Hellebuyck had a 5-0-0 record in February for the River Hawks, while posting a 1.61 GAA and a 0.933 save percentage with one shutout (111 saves on 119 shots). He allowed two goals or less in four of his five starts and notched three victories against ranked opponents in the month. He registered 26 saves in the 6-3 win at UMass on February 15 and notched a 25-save road shutout on February 22 vs. Boston University.
