PRE-GAME NOTES
The Winnipeg Jets (12-11-1) wrap up a four-game road trip with a Sunday evening visit to Prudential Center to take on the New Jersey Devils (11-8-5*). This will be the third and final meeting this season between the Jets and Devils. The Jets have handled the Devils both on the road (Feb. 24 at NJD, 4-2W) and at home (Feb. 28 vs. NJD, 3-1 W). Winnipeg is currently 2-1-0 on their current road trip and 7-2-0 over their last nine away from home. The Devils are coming off a 6-3 loss in Carolina Saturday night.
FIRST PERIOD
8:47: Ryan Carter puts the Devils on the board first after a crazy bounce on a clearing attempt that landed in front of the net. Travis Zajac tossed the puck through the crease behind Pavelec and Carter was there to backhand the puck into the wide open net. 1-0 Devils.
10:12 Stephen Gionta made it 2-0 less than two minutes later. A costly turnover ended up with Kovalchuk sending a long cross ice pass onto the tape of Gionta. He charged into the Jets zone, moved the puck around his check and flipped it into the back of the net. 2-0 Jets.
16:17: Mark Stuart closes the gap with his second of the year from Nik Antropov and Antti Miettinen. Stuart sent a fluttering puck from the top of the point that found it's way up and over the shoulder of Hedberg.
17:59: Grant Clitsome took the game's first penalty of the night for holding, putting the Devils on their first PP of the night. Despite only tallying one shot on net, the Devils put huge pressure on the short handed Jets, ringing one off the post and another just missing the net.
After a Devils-dominated first period, the Jets head to the dressing room trailing 2-1. Shots through 20 minutes were 11-5 Devils.
SECOND PERIOD
7:00: Blake Wheeler found himself on a two-on-one with Andrew Ladd as they raced across the line into the Devils zone. Wheeler took a look and fired a wrist shot that just hit the top of Hedberg's shoulder and bounced up and behind the net. Good chance by the Jets top line but they remained down 2-1.
| Smart play by Jets look a lot better in this period. Winning some puck battles and getting scoring chances. |
