PRE-GAME NOTES

The Winnipeg Jets (18-16-2) and New York Rangers (16-15-3) are two teams looking to break their current offensive trends. The Jets have scored one goal in their last two games, which has resulted in losses to Pittsburgh (Mar. 28, 0-4 L) and Carolina (Mar. 30, 1-3 L). Meanwhile the Rangers have been held off the score sheet entirely in their last two games – shutout losses to Ottawa (Mar. 28, 0-3 L) and Montreal (Mar. 30, 0-3 L). Both teams will get a chance at redemption on Monday when they meet for the last time this season at Madison Square Garden. The Jets have taken both meetings between the clubs this season beginning with a 4-3 win at MSG on Feb. 26. Winnipeg followed that up with a 3-1 win at MTS Centre on Mar. 14.

FIRST PERIOD

0:19: RANGERS GOAL: The Rangers came out flying and Derek Stepan put the Rangers on the board after captain Ryan Callahan sent him a nice feed in front. Rick Nash picked up the second helper.

1:15: JETS GOAl: The Jets answered back quickly to tie things up less than a minute later. Kyle Wellwood found Nik Antropov in front to shovel the puck past Henrik Lundqvist. Just like that it was 1-1.

Quite the start as it's 1-1 less than two minutes in. Antropov scores for #NHLJets to make it 1-1. Just what was expected from these teams!            @Ted_Wyman

12:54: JETS GOAL: Zach Bogosian give the Jets their first lead of the night on a one-timer blast from the point. Olli Jokinen won the draw inside the Rangers zone and got the puck back to Ron Hainsey who set Bogosian up with the one-timer. 2-1 Jets.

First period comes to a close and after a bad first shift, the #NHLJets come back to take a 2-1 lead over #NYR during strong road period            @WiebeSunSports

Shots on net after one period were 11-7 in favour of the Jets. Dustin Byfuglien led the Jets in ice-time with 9:36. Grant Clitsome left the game early in the period after taking a stick in the eye. It's reported that he will not return to the game tonight.

SECOND PERIOD

3:11: RANGERS GOAL: Captain Ryan Callahan ties the game with a shorthanded goal after the Jets couldn't hold it inside the Rangers zone. Callahan made a nice play down low to flip the puck past Pavelec on the backhand. 2-2 tie.

That's the third shortanded goal allowed by #NHLJets this season. Great toe-drag by Callahan, who scored on backhand deke            @WiebeSunSports

The Jets were given two late power play opportunities and were able to create some quality chances with the extra man. The best chance on the power play came to Bryan Little after Andrew Ladd dropped him a nice through the legs pass at the doorstep but Lundqvist got his toe out at the last second to stone Little in the crease.

Holy Mackerel. What a save by Lundqvist on Bryan Little. Ladd with a beauty pass and King Henrik wills that save to keep score even.            @IllegalCurve

Through two periods of play, the Jets and Rangers were all tied up 2-2. Shots on net were 22-18 in favour of the Rangers.

THIRD PERIOD

5:46: RANGERS GOAL: Derek Stepan buries his second of the night after he scooped up the rebound from Anton Stralman's shot and made it 3-2 Rangers.

Rangers all over the Jets in the third period and take a 3-2 lead on goal by Derek Stepan. Lots of Jets standing still            @Ted_Wyman
13:07: RANGERS GOAL: Rick Nash picked up his 13th of the season and increased the Rangers lead to two, after he beat Pavelec on a hard wrister inside the circle.

That's how things would end in Madison Square Gardenm as the Jets fall 4-2 at the hands of the Rangers on Monday night. The final shots on goal were 35-28 Rangers. The Jets will now shift to Long Island to play the Islanders Tuesday night. Game time is 6:00 pm CST and you can watch the game on TSN Jets or listen on TSN Radio 1290.
