GAME PREVIEW

The Winnipeg Jets (18-18-2) and Montreal Canadiens (23-8-5) are currently leading their respective divisions and as a result hold down the third and second seeds in the Eastern Conference, respectively. The Jets have dropped a season-high four straight regulation losses trimming their Southeast Division lead to two points. The Canadiens hold a narrow one-point lead in the Northeast Division over second-placed Boston and are coming off of a 5-3 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers last night. In the only prior meeting between Winnipeg and Montreal this season, the Jets were downed 4-3 by the Canadiens at Bell Centre on Jan. 29. After Thursday, these two teams will meet once again in the Jets’ regular season finale on Apr. 25 at MTS Centre.

FIRST PERIOD

8:16: JETS GOAL: Grant Clitsome found Alexander Burmistrov all alone at the backdoor on a rush started by Andrew Ladd to dish the puck into a wide open net. 1-0 Jets.

10:47: HABS GOAL: With Ron Hainsey in the box for tripping, Michael Ryder makes the Jets pay to even the score at 1-1. Brian Gionta blasted a shot from the slot that Pavelec kicked right out to Ryder at the backdoor who made no mistake finding the back of the net.

What does a strong power play get you? Well, the #Habs have 33 power play goals this year and the #NHLJets have 15 #bigdifference            @WiebeSunSports
The first period came to an end with both teams on the board and tied 1-1. Shots on goal were 11-9 in favour of the Canadiens. Zach Bogosian led the way with 7:56 of ice-time.

SECOND PERIOD

2:03: HABS GOAL: Michael Ryder scores his second of the night after he gobbled up a loose puck in traffic in front and sent it past Pavelec to give his team their first lead of the night.

5:51: PPG: Brian Gionta increases the Canadiens lead to 3-1 after the puck bounced off his shoulder on a Lars Eller shot from the top of the circle that Pavelec couldn't do much about.

11:53: The Jets finally got a chance on the power play to narrow the gap but just weren't able to pull the trigger and find the back of the net.

Jets fail to take advantage of a poor Habs chance. Enstrom and Little 2 on 1 but fail to get a shot.            @IllegalCurve
Through two periods, the Jets trailed 3-1 to the Canadiens. Shots on net read 20-18 Habs.

THIRD PERIOD

0:21: The Jets got an early third period power play and Toby Enstrom blasted a slap shot right into the back of the net through traffic. The goal was waived off because the "traffic" had Blake Wheeler in the crease. No goal, and the Jets weren't able to inch closer on the advantage.

7:43: HABS GOAL: Alex Galchenyuk adds a fourth goal to the board for the Canadiens after Travis Moen sent a nice backhand pass in the crease to Galchenyuk at the back door with a wide open net. 4-1 Habs.

The Habs' resurgence really is something to see. The two hungry, just-happy-to-be-here rookies have just been amazing.            @pwilliamsNHL
