Game Blog: Jets vs Lightning
Jets play host to division rival Tampa Bay Lightning, Tuesday night.

GAME PREVIEW

With the NHL landscape realigning for the start of the 2013-14 season, the Winnipeg Jets (21-19-2) and Tampa Bay Lightning (17-22-3) will meet for the final time as Southeast Division rivals on Thursday at MTS Centre. The Jets are winners of three straight games and are two points back of the eighth-placed New York Rangers, who have one game in hand. The Lightning are 0-2-1 in their last three games and find themselves in 13th place in the Eastern Conference with six games remaining. The Jets hold a 2-1-0 record versus the Lightning this season. The most recent meeting between the clubs took place at MTS Centre on Mar. 24, resulting in a 3-2 victory for Winnipeg.

FIRST PERIOD

1:23: JETS GOAL: Andrew Ladd putt he Jets on the board early in the opening period with his 17th of the season. The play started with a Lightning turnover in the neutral zone. Little took the puck, turned and dished to Blake Wheeler heading across the bliueline. He flipped the puck to Ladd in the middle who tossed a wrist shot right through the legs of Ben Bishop.

10:27: LIGHTNING GOAL: Martin St.Louis evened the score midway through the first period after Ron Hainsey attempted to clear the puck from behind the Jets net. The puck didn't hug the boards, but instead spit right out into the middle of the circle for St.Louis to blast his 12th of the season past Pavelec. 1-1.

Through 20 minutes, the Jets and Lightning were tied at 1-1. Shots slightly favoured the Jets 13-11.

SECOND PERIOD

8:37: JETS GOAL: Blake Wheeler made it 2-1 for the Jets with his 16th of the season. Andrew Ladd started the play finding Wheeler at the top of the circle. Wheeler danced his way through traffic in the crease and waited until Bishop dropped to the ice before sending the puck over his head under the crossbar.

With just over seven minutes to play, Grant Clitsome blasted a shot from the point that flew past a screened Bishop and into the back of the net. Unfortunately, the goal was immediately waived off because there was contact with the goalie...tough break for the Jets but they held the one-goal edge.

Ladd made contact with Bishop and then pulled back. For those who say coach Claude Noel doesn't show enough emotion, check out a replay          @WiebeSunSports

13:13: Eric Tangradi and Nate Thompson drop the gloves just after the disallowed goal to try to gain back some energy and momentum after that tough call. Both head off for fighting and Thompson took an extra minor for boarding.

17:54: JETS GOAL: Andrew Ladd tallies his second of the game after Blake Wheeler flipped him a nice cross-ice pass just over the blue line. The Captain scooped it up and fired from just inside the left circle that beat Bishop high blocker side. 3-1.

Through two periods of play, the Jets held a two-goal lead with shots reading 24-15 Jets.

THIRD PERIOD

5:19: LIGHTNING GOAL: Pierre-Cedric Labrie shovels home a rebound from a Nate Thompson shot from the bottom of the circle and it's 3-2 Jets.

Shortly after the Lightning goal...
Wheeler with speed gets tangled with the Bolts defenceman. Fans feel it should have been a penalty. Refs you suck chants rain down again.          @IllegalCurve

11:17: LIGHTNING GOAL:
Steven Stamkos blasts a hard wrist shot from the top of the circle that beat Pavelec just over his shoulder to tie the game 3-3.

Claude Noel said Jets would face adversity in these final 6 games. They're facing it now in the 3rd prd.TBL with 2 unanswered goals.Tied at 3          @saraorlesky
Regulation ran out on this one with the score all tied up 3-3. To OT we go. Shots through 60 minutes were 32-25 Jets.

Nothing was solved in the extra five minutes of play so...

And now we go to a shootout. You've paid for the seat but you are only going to need the edge.          @IllegalCurve
