Avs win 2013 NHL Draft Lottery; Jets pick 13th
The Colorado Avalanche were announced the winners of the 2013 NHL Draft Lottery and were awarded the right to select first overall at the 2013 NHL Draft. The Winnipeg Jets hold the 13th overall selection.
The Avalanche, had the second-greatest percentage likelihood, 18.8%, that they would hold the winning combination for the first overall selection. Per the new CBA, this was the first NHL Draft Lottery in which each team who did not make the playoffs had the opportunity to win the first overall selection.
The Florida Panthers, who would have picked first, now own the second overall selection. The Tampa Bay Lightning, Nashville Predators and Carolina Hurricanes own the third, fourth and fifth drafting positions, respectively, in the first round.
The order of selection for the first 14 drafting positions in the first round, only, of the 2013 NHL Draft:

3. Tampa Bay Lightning
4. Nashville Predators
5. Carolina Hurricanes
6. Calgary Flames
7. Edmonton Oilers
8. Buffalo Sabres
9. New Jersey Devils
10. Dallas Stars
11. Philadelphia Flyers
12. Phoenix Coyotes
13. Winnipeg Jets
14. Columbus Blue Jackets
The remaining positions are determined by the results of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The 2013 NHL Draft will take place at Prudential Center in Newark. All seven rounds of the Draft will take place Sunday, June 30th starting at 3 p.m. ET. TSN will televise the Draft live in Canada and RDS will present exclusive French-language coverage. In the U.S., NBC Sports Network presents live coverage starting at 3 p.m. ET, while NHL Network in the U.S. continues live coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET.
