GAME SUMMARY

Michael Frolik, Carl Klingberg and Anthony Peluso scored, and Ondrej Pavelec made 22 saves when the Winnipeg Jets edged the Edmonton Oilers 3-2 at MTS Centre.

Eric Tangradi had two assists for the Jets, who dropped their preseason opener against Washington on Saturday at the Kraft Hockeyville game in Belleville, Ontario.

GAME PREVIEW

The Jets reassigned 10 players from training camp Monday late afternoon and condensed the three groups down to two groups.

Look for Devin Setoguchi to dress in his first game at the MTS Centre and will join Evander Kane and Olli Jokinen on a line.

Ondrej Pavelec will get the start in net for the Jets with Eddie Pasquale backing him up.

FIRST PERIOD

No scoring through the first 15 minutes of play but the Jets penalty kill units were put to the test as they took a pair of penalties. The Oilers spent a fair bit of time inside the Jets zone but just weren't able to get things going as they had only combined for four shots on goal.

15:18: The Jets finally got their first power play of the game when Brandon Davidson went to the box for holding on Byfuglien.  Unfortunately, the power play unit wasn't able to solve Bachman.

Through 20 minutes, there was no score but the Jets held a 10-8 edge in shots on goal.

Scoreless period at MTS Centre. Ondrej Pavelec was sharp, turning aside all eight shots he faced. #NHLJets and #Oilers are scoreless     @WiebeSunSports

SECOND PERIOD

7:32: Linus Omark took a hooking call putting the Jets on their second power play hoping to break the scoreless tie.

JETS PPG GOAL: 8:45: Michael Frolik picked up his first of the preseason as he scooped up a nice rebound on Tangradi's spinning shot to the right of Bachman. Frolik had started the play on the other wing looking for Mark Scheifele in the crease but instead moved to the other side to clean up the flurry of rebounds. 1-0 Jets.

JETS GOAL: 13:00: Carl Klingberg picked up his first preseason goal to make it 2-0 Jets just over the midway mark of the middle period. He started the play by firing a shot from the point that went just wide. Tangradi picked it up and carried it behind the net and sent it right back out in front for Klingberg to send it home.

Eric O'Dell picked up the secondary assist. I've liked his game better today than Sun vs #Sens. If you're scoring at home, 2As for Tangradi     @WiebeSunSports

Through two periods of play, the Jets were on top 2-0 on the Oilers and led 26-16 in shots on goal.

THIRD PERIOD

10:44: Not much to speak of in the goals department but a few penalties were dished out for both teams. Just past the midway mark of the final period, Jim Slater took a tripping call but Omark also took a minor for embellishment. Shots were 26-20 at the halfway point of the third.

Michael Frolik has looked good for in this game. Great cross-ice pass to Byfuglien on last shift    @Ted_Wyman

JETS GOAL: 15:35: Anthony Peluso scores his first goal of the preseason as he raced in to pick up a loose puck in front of Bachman.

OILERS GOAL: 16:31: Moments later Michell Moroz put the Oilers on the board after Ryan Martindale found him at the backdoor. 3-1 Jets.

OILERS GOAL: 16:54 Philip Larsen brought the Oil within one. Nail Yakupov picked up the helper on the play.
