Hockey Fights Cancer
Only a few days left to buy your raffle tickets to win one of 35 lavender jerseys, act now!

Time is running out to purchase your raffle tickets to win one of 35 special-edition lavender jerseys, which will be worn during pre-game warm up on Tuesday, October 22nd against the Washington Capitals. The raffle for these limited-edition jerseys has drawn much attention during October home games, where volunteers have set up to sell tickets in the concourse area. Executive Director of the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, Annitta Stenning, has received nothing but positive feedback. “People love the purple and the fact they are authentic jerseys is a major bonus,” she said.

Hockey Fights Cancer night at the MTS Centre is part of a league-wide initiative benefiting CancerCare’s Pediatric Clinical Trials. The CancerCare Manitoba Foundation currently funds 51 percent of the cost of trials for children and teens with cancer here in Manitoba. The partnership with the league has gone a long way to help the Foundation. “They are a Canadian brand icon,” said Stenning. “When the NHL gets behind an initiative people across Canada take notice.”

The lavender uniforms are hard to miss. During the game on October 22nd, Jets coaches and broadcasters will wear official lavender Hockey Fights Cancer ties, and players will continue to support Hockey Fights Cancer by wearing decals on their helmets throughout the month. To continue on the lavender theme, the Winnipeg Jets will convert all their rink-boards & visual media to the Hockey Fights Caner colour that night in order to generate increased awareness for the fight against cancer.

“The NHL and all the teams should be commended for their participation and effort,” applauded Stenning. “For us the Oct 22 game will be extra special - we have 4 young cancer survivors at the game and that will be a once in a lifetime thrill for them and their families. More importantly everyone at the game, watching on TV or listening on radio, will have the chance to see how important it is to support the work of CancerCare Manitoba and the thousands of patients and families living with this awful disease. Like hockey is a team game, so is fighting cancer. Success requires the support not only from family and friends but from the entire community.”
