MTS Centre Reaches Recycling Milestone

The Winnipeg Jets, along with the Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association (CBCRA) and its Recycle Everywhere program, are proud to announce the MTS Centre has officially recycled 1 million plastic bottles.

In 2011, Recycle Everywhere outfitted the MTS Centre with over 70 beverage container recycling bins helping the complex reach this goal. Currently, Recycle Everywhere is working to update the existing infrastructure with new bin models as well as add additional beverage container recycling throughout the arena so patrons have the option to recycle their empty beverage containers no matter which area of the building they are in.

"We are happy to be celebrating this milestone with the MTS Centre,” Christa Rust, Program Manager of the CBCRA explains. “Recycling 1 million plastic bottles makes a big impact; this is the equivalent of covering the ice of the MTS Centre 13 times over, filling 217 hockey nets or would make almost 60,000 of the new Team Canada hockey jerseys for the 2014 Olympics".

To help mark this occasion, the Winnipeg Jets and Recycle Everywhere will be celebrating in several ways at their upcoming sponsored game on December 10 when the Jets host the St. Louis Blues. Recycle Everywhere wants to remind all fans to recycle their empty beverage containers while at the game, select lucky recyclers will even win grand prizes such as bikes and jackets.
