Winnipeg Jets Prospect Report
Week of December 30, 2013 - January 5, 2014
Michael Hutchinson, G - Ontario Reign (ECHL)
Michael Hutchinson has been recognized as the ECHL’s top weekly goaltender for the third time this season after posting a perfect 4‐0‐0 record last week that included a shutout, 1.97 goals against average, and .929 save percentage. Hutchinson has been a wall for the Ontario Reign earning a record of 21‐4‐2 this season helping them to the top of the ECHL standings where they sit today.
Andrew Copp, C - Team USA (WJHC)
Michigan product Andrew Copp had a strong showing for the U.S. team at the World Junior Hockey Championships. While his team failed to medal, Copp was prominent on the squad earning a team‐high five assists and settling in as the Americans’ most reliable faceoff man. Copp returns to the Michigan Wolverines who he led in scoring when he left for Malmo, SWE in December.
Jordan Samuels‐Thomas, LW - Quinnipiac (ECAC)
In Quinnipiac’s last game of 2013, winger Jordan Samuels‐Thomas collected a pair of power play assists in helping the Wildcats win 5‐0 over Sacred Heart. The convincing win was Quinnipiac’s second game at the UConn Hockey Classic, which followed a 2‐2 tie to the UMass Minutemen. After closing out the year on a high note, Samuels‐Thomas began 2014 with a bang scoring a late third period goal to give his team a 2‐1 win over Maine.
Nic Petan, C - Team Canada (WJHC)
Nic Petan had quite a day on Dec. 30 while at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden. First, he put the stamp on a 5‐3 win over Slovakia with two goals, including the winner, then following that put his signature on his first pro contract. Petan had a good showing for Team Canada collecting four goals and one assist in seven games while falling just short of the medals with a tournament ending loss to Russia.
Tucker Poolman, D - Omaha Lancers (USHL)
Defenceman Tucker Poolman is putting together a solid offensive campaign. The North Dakota recruit has 10 points (3G, 7A) over his last nine games and leads all USHL defencemen in points with 25 in 31 games played. Poolman is second on his team with seven power play goals this season, one of which he scored in his most recent game on Jan. 4 versus Lincoln.
