Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation Home

Winnipeg Jets Hockey AcademyFor the past six years the Winnipeg Jets True North Foundation has worked in partnership with the Winnipeg Aboriginal Sport Achievement Centre (WASAC) to run the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy, previously known as the Lil’ Moose Hockey Program.

The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Academy provides opportunities to children who have few, if any, other recreational options. The mandate of the program is to level the playing field for underprivileged children by providing them with the chance to play hockey while surrounded by their peers and positive role models. By providing children with an opportunity to experience the positive benefits of hockey, the Foundation believes that they will have increased confidence to pursue their goals, on and off the ice. Participation barriers have been removed by providing programming staff, equipment, transportation, ice rentals, nutrition, and qualified on ice instruction to all academy participants.

For the 2012-2013 hockey season, the Foundation will partner with WASAC, volunteers from E.H. Price, Investors Group, Princess Auto, Maple Leaf Construction, Birchwood Automotive Group, True North Sports and Entertainment as well as 3 school divisions (St. James-Assiniboia, River East Transcona, Winnipeg One) to provide ten schools and over 425 children a chance to participate in the Hockey Academy.
