NHL Work Stoppage FAQ’s

What happens to the money that I’ve paid for my 2012-2013 season tickets if games are cancelled?

The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club will provide a full account credit or refund to Primary Account Holders the cancelled pre-season and/or regular season games during the 2012-2013 season.

The following information outlines the options associated to Season Ticket Holders that have paid for the season tickets in full and those who are paying for their season tickets through monthly payment plan options:

Season Tickets – Paid in Full (Option A and Option B)

As a Winnipeg Jets Primary Season Ticket Holder, who has paid in full, you will have the following two options:

Option A:

Retain your season ticket payment with the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club and credit for cancelled games will be applied to your account.

By selecting Option A you will receive the credit equivalent to simple interest calculated at an annual rate of 3.0%, based on the full amount paid from the point at which the Winnipeg Jets first pre-season game is cancelled on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 to the date on which Winnipeg Jets hockey resumes at the MTS Centre for the 2012-2013 season.

A credit equivalent to simple interest will continue to be calculated at an annual rate of 3.0% from the date Winnipeg Jets regular season play resumes for the 2012-2013 season to the date your 2012-2013 playoff invoice is due or your first or second installment payment is due for the 2013-2014 season.  This calculation will be based on the balance of funds held in your account which represents the cash equivalent value of the number of games cancelled as a result of the work stoppage.

The total value of games cancelled in the 2012-2013 season, plus the interest equivalent credit as described herein, will be applied to your account to be used as a set-off against your 2012-2013 playoff invoice or the first or second installment payment due for your 2013-2014 season tickets; or, alternatively,

Option B:

Request a refund of your season ticket payment for cancelled games using the same method of payment as your initial payment.

By selecting Option B you will earn simple interest calculated at an annual rate of 1.0% on your account balance from the date on which the first pre-season game is cancelled on Tuesday, September 25, 2012.

Refunds for games cancelled, commencing with the month ending September 30th, 2012, will be issued to you, along with interest earned, within 10 business days of the last day of each successive month and will be based upon the number of games cancelled in the prior month.

You will continue to earn interest on your account balance until such time as Winnipeg Jets hockey resumes at the MTS Centre for the 2012-2013 season.

Season Tickets – Payment Plan – Option A and Option B

As a Winnipeg Jets Primary Season Ticket Holder participating in our monthly payment plan you will have the following two options:

Option A:

Retain your season ticket payment paid to date on account with the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club, continue with your monthly payment plan payments on the 15th of each month.

By selecting Option A you will receive the credit equivalent to simple interest calculated at an annual rate of 2.0%, based on the amount paid from the date at which the Winnipeg Jets first pre-season game is cancelled on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 to the date on which Winnipeg Jets hockey resumes at the MTS Centre for the 2012-2013 season.

A credit equivalent to simple interest will continue to be calculated at an annual rate of 2.0% from the date Winnipeg Jets regular season play resumes for the 2012-2013 season to the date your 2012-2013 playoff invoice is due or your first or second installment payment is due for the 2013-2014 season.  This calculation will be based on the balance of funds held in your account which represents the cash equivalent value of the number of games cancelled as a result of the work stoppage.

The total value of games cancelled in the 2012-2013 season, plus the interest equivalent credit as described herein, will be applied to your account to be used as a set-off against your outstanding monthly payment plan installments, 2012-2013 playoff invoice or the first or second installment payment due for your 2013-2014 season tickets; or, alternatively,

Option B:

Discontinue your monthly payment plan option effective September 15th, 2012 and request a refund of your season ticket payment for cancelled games using the same method of payment as your initial payment.

Interest will continue to be paid on account balances to the date on which Winnipeg Jets hockey resumes at the MTS Centre for the 2012-2013 season.

Monthly payments, including any catch up payments, will commence on the 15th of the month in which Winnipeg Jets hockey resumes at the MTS Centre.

Convenience fees will still apply to the monthly payment plan option.

Irrespective of whether you select Option A or Option B, and given the timing of the NHL work stoppage, your September 15th monthly payment was not processed on September 15th, 2012.   Should you select Option A, your September 15th monthly payment will be processed by Monday, September 24th, 2012.

If I would prefer to stop my monthly payment plan installments but retain my money paid to date on account credit and not request a refund for cancelled games, can I do so?

Yes, you can stop your monthly payment plan installments and retain your money paid to date on your account.   You will earn simple interest calculated at an annual rate of 1.0% on your account balance from the date on which the first pre-season game is cancelled on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 to the date on which Winnipeg Jets hockey resumes at the MTS Centre for the 2012-2013 season.

Why do season ticket holders that have paid in full receive a higher interest rate than those season ticket holders that are participating in the monthly payment plan?

Much like your financial institution, you receive a higher interest rate based on a higher dollar value in your account.  Season Ticket Holders that have paid in full, have a higher amount invested in their account so receive a higher rate of interest.

If there is a lengthy delay to the start of the season will the Jets extend the payment confirmation deadlines for the 2013-2014 season beyond April 15, 2013?

No, all payment deadlines will remain the same for the 2013-2014 season.

If the season gets cancelled what happens to the term on my Ticket Purchase Agreement?

As outlined in paragraph 1 of your Ticket Purchase Agreement, the term of your 3, 4 or 5-year Ticket Purchase Agreement shall be adjusted by one year should the entire 2012-2013 season be cancelled.

If there are cancelled games during the 2012-2013 season but games are still played constituting a shortened season, will the season still be considered a full year on my Ticket Purchase Agreement?

Yes.  For purposes of Term, pursuant to your Ticket Purchase Agreement, a season with fewer than 45 pre-season and regular season games would still be considered as full year.

If there is a lengthy delay to the start of the season and/or the 2012-13 season is cancelled, will you be increasing ticket prices more than a maximum of 3% for the 2013-14 season?

The Ticket Purchase Agreement remains in effect for the term of your specific agreement.   If the entire 2012-2013 season is cancelled, there will be no increase to ticket prices for the 2013-2014 season.

When will I receive my tickets?

Season tickets for the 2012-2013 season will be issued to season ticket holders once the NHL and the NHLPA have successfully finalized a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Who has the authority to cancel NHL games?

In all cases, games may only officially be cancelled by the NHL.  It is possible that games may be rescheduled by the NHL for a future date; rescheduled games are not considered to be cancelled games for purposes of calculating credits or interest.

Do I get a refund or credit, including interest, for any games that are rescheduled?

No, only those Winnipeg Jets games that are officially cancelled by the NHL will be issued a refund or credit.

Will the schedule change if a portion of the season is cancelled?

We are currently working from the 2012-2013 schedule as released by the NHL in June.  Should any changes be made to the 2012-2013 schedule; it will be as directed to us by the NHL and communicated to our season ticket holders and fans immediately upon receiving notification from the NHL.

What happens to my tickets if the schedule changes (date, time, and opponent)?

Season tickets for the 2012-2013 season will be issued to season ticket holders once the NHL and the NHLPA have successfully finalized a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.  Season ticket holders will be advised immediately of any changes to the 2012-2013 schedule as they are communicated to us by the NHL inclusive of date, time and opponent.

Will the opponents change?

It is a possibility, however, should any changes be made to the 2012-2013 schedule; it will be as directed to us by the NHL and communicated to our season ticket holders and fans as promptly as possible.

I am a half season holder, which games are included in my package if the schedule changes?

We will continue with our existing method of alternating confirmed games between Half Pack A and Half Pack B for the 2012-2013 season.   Half Pack A will receive the Home Opener and Half Pack B will receive the 2013 Playoff option.  If the season is cancelled, this format will remain the same for the 2013-2014 season.

Will Winnipeg Jets Wait List members get a refund if all or a portion of the season is cancelled?

The Wait List membership fee will remain in effect for the 2012-2013 season.   However, if the 2012-2013 season is cancelled, the existing Wait List will remain in effect for two consecutive seasons and a new membership fee will not be charged to you for the 2013-2014 season.

Will Club Fees be prorated for the 2012-2013 season if games are cancelled?

Yes, the $500.00 annual club fee will be prorated for every Winnipeg Jets game cancelled (i.e. $500.00 / 45).

Is your policy with respect to season ticket refunds, credits and interest an NHL policy or is it a policy set out by the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club?

It is not a league wide policy.  The Winnipeg Jets have thoughtfully taken into consideration our season ticket holders and have determined and developed our own plan with respect to refunds, credits and interest.
