Big Wheel Keeps on Turnin'
QUOTE OF THE GAME:
"They played with a lot of heart, they all did. It was nice to see them play that way- in back to back games."
- Claude Noel
The Jets continue their eight game homestand when they host the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday night. Watch the game on TSN Jets or listen to TSN Radio 1290. Game time is 7:30 PM.
The game started off fairly slow after the Jets tallied only four shots on net through a scoreless first period. Things picked up as Alexander Burmistrov
opened the scoring just two minutes into the second period.
had an excellent outing tonight picking up the Jets second goal and setting Bryan Little
up for goals three and four to help lift his team to victory. Little net his two goals just two minutes apart in the third period which proved to be the deal breaker in the win.
Jordan Caron and David Krejci were the goal scores for the Bruins tonight.
was superb again in net for his team as he stopped 31 of 33 shots, earning the second star of the night. Tuukka Rask turned aside 21 of 25.
The Jets will have tomorrow to practice before the visiting Colorado Avalanche are in town Sunday night. Catch that game on Sunday at 7:30pm.
Similar to many of the Jets games we've witnessed recently, there was no scoring through the first 20 minutes between the Jets and Bruins tonight. Both teams were very disciplined as there were no penalties or roughness of any kind.
The Jets only tallied four shots on the shot clock to their 13. They did not shy away from hits however, as they connected with 10 hits to the Bruins seven. Evander Kane
led the way with three of the 10.
led the Jets on ice with 7:48 through one period of play.
Just when we thought the game would be another low-scoring battle of the goaltenders..., Alexander Burmistrov
picked up his 12th of the season to give the Jets a 1-0 lead just 1:59 into the middle period. Mark Stuart
sent a nice cross-ice feed through the neutral zone to Burmistrov on the right wing. With speed, Burmistrov snapped a rifle right over the left shoulder of Rask, knocking off the water bottle.
Jordan Caron answered back for the Bruins at 6:10 to tie the game. After a neutral zone turnover, the Bruins marched across the blueline into the Jets zone, Caron took a look but decided to sna a shot on net that beat Pavelec top shelf glove-side.
Kane took the game's first penalty of the night at 13:20 for elbowing, but the Bruins were unable to convert on the advantage. Instead the Jets decided to steal their momentum and after a couple of rushes on both ends of the ice, they found the back of the net.
had Kane and Wheeler with him on a three on two rush. Byfuglien passed up to Wheeler at center who waited patiently to find a shooting lane. He wound up and wired a wrister straight through the legs of Rask. Wheeler's 11th came with 4:10 to play in the second period. 2-1 Jets.
After two periods of play, the Jets were up 2-1 and the Bruins were up 20-13 in shots.
Less than a minute into the third, David Krejci tied the game for the Bruins. The play startede on some bad luck for Dustin Byfuglien
after his stick exploded taking a shot from the point. Milan Lucic carried the puck up ice and into the zone. He dished it over to Tyler Seguin. Seguin took a shot that Pavelec kicked away but Krejci was there to snatch up the rebound and lift it up and over Pavelec.
regained the lead for the Jets at 4:16 tilting the momentum back to the home bench. Wheeler blasted a slap shot from the top of the circle that Rask kicked out. Little found the loose rebound, kicked it onto the tape of his stick and finished the play. 3-2 Jets.
That wasn't it for Little as he widened the gap to 4-2 just 2:04 seconds later. Blake Wheeler
dug the puck out of the corner and sent beautiful pass in front right to the tape of Little at the right post. Little made no mistake by tapping home his 16th of the year.
That's how this one would end- with the Jets on top 4-2 on the Boston Bruins as they snap that 0-9 record in back-to-back games.
The Jets will have tomorrow off before they welcome the Colorado Avalanche into town Sunday night.
