QUOTE OF THE GAME:
"Awesome. It's always a great thing to get out of the way and something you always dream of. I never thought it would come on the PK but definitely happy to get the monkey off my back and get the first one out of the way. "
- Zach Redmond

NEXT GAME:

The Jets head out on a one-game short trip to Ottawa to face the Senators on Saturday. Game time is 1pm on CBC  or listen to TSN Radio 1290.

The Winnipeg Jets were looking to make it two in a row tonight against the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs but instead fell to a heart-breaking 3-2 final Thursday night at the MTS Centre.

Zach Redmond opened the scoring for the Jets scoring his first NHL goal shorthanded after Bryan Little dished him a nice feed on a 2-on-1 opportunity.

The Leafs killed that momentum as they answered back quickly with a shorthanded goal of their own to tie things up through two periods.

The Jets would go ahead in the third period with a redirected goal from Andrew Ladd on Grant Clitsome's blast from the point. The lead didn't hold as the Leafs scored two late ones just 56 seconds apart late in the final frame to steal both points tonight.

Final shots through 60 minutes were 25-18 Winnipeg. The Jets will hit the road Friday morning to take on the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon. Game time is 1pm.

FIRST PERIOD

The Jets drew the first penalty of the night after Dion Phaneuf got called for hooking on Andrew Ladd just 3:53 into the first period. The Jets special team went to work but the two minutes flew by and they were unsuccessful on their first advantage.

With a little over five minutes to play in the opening period, Chris Thorburn and Manitoba native Frazer McLaren dropped the mitts trying to spark their teammates in the scoreless tie.

After 20 minutes of play, the game remained scoreless and shots were 7-5 in favour of the Jets.

SECOND PERIOD

Nik Antropov took an early cross-checking penalty 2:40 into the middle frame putting the Jets down a man. Things worked out though as the Jets quickly found themselves on an odd man rush after a crucial turnover in the neutral zone. Bryan Little carried the puck into the zone with Zach Redmond with him. He made a nifty pass onto Redmond's stick who sent a nice wrist shot over the shoulder of Reimer. His first NHL goal is a nice shorthanded one, from Little and Enstrom. 1-0 Jets.

Just under three minutes later, the Leafs answered back with a shorthanded goal of their own. After the Jets turned it over at the blueline, Tyler Bozak scooped the puck and charged in all alone and quickly put one past Pavelec.

After two periods of play, the Jets and Leafs were knotted 1-1. Shots through 40 minutes 16-12 Jets.

THIRD PERIOD

Grant Clitsome put the Jets up 2-1 at 3:46 of the third period after he blasted a slap shot that beat Reimer glove-side. Little picked up his second assist of the night on the goal.

Later in the period, the Leafs found a way to tie the game when Matt Frattin redirected Cody Franson's shot from the point to tie the game at two.

Phil Kessel made it 3-2 Leafs at 15:52 on the power play with Ponikarovsky in the box for holding. Kessel released a hard shot from the top of the circle that found it's way past Pavelec into the back of the net.

As the final minute ticked down, the Jets were throwing everything they could manage on net but just couldn't solve Reimer to tie things up again and they fell to a disappointing 3-2 final.
