Jets 2, Bruins 1- Final

Kristi Hennessy  - Coordinator, Web Content | Wednesday, 08.06.2014 / 4:52 AM

The Winnipeg Jets have ended the Boston Bruins 15-game point streak by defeating them 2-1 on Tuesday night.

Andrew Ladd opened the scoring tonight with 1:39 to play in the first period. Bryan Little scored his eighth of the season and the game winner as he won his own faceoff, raced up ice and put the puck past Rask into the back of the net.

Ondrej Pavelec was tremendous again in net tonight stopping 39 of 40 shots on net picking up yet another first star. Tuuka Rask on the other end turned aside 33 of 35 for the game's third star.

The Jets will have time to enjoy this one but admit they still have a lot of work to do as they look to their next opponent, the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.

Catch that one at 7:30 pm on TSN Jets.

FIRST PERIOD

It took 18:22 minutes of play in the first period for something to convert to the scoreboard and luckily, it was in favour of the home squad. Ondrej Pavelec passed the puck to his d-man Johnny Oduya who turned and gave it to Andrew Ladd.

Ladd took it up ice on the left side and into the Bruins zone. He saw a lane and took it, snapping one top corner past Tuukka Rask to make it 1-0 Jets. Pavelec and Oduya both credited with the helpers on Ladd's ninth goal of the season.

Shots after 20 minutes, the Jets led 11-10 on the shot clock.

SECOND PERIOD

The Bruins broke out of the gates in the second period with energy and focus. They were able to play the majority of the first half of the second period in the Jets zone with a little help from a man advantage at 3:17 as Klingberg took a minor for holding.

The Jets were able to push back in a big way in the second half putting pressure on the Bruins all over the ice, winning battles and slowly wearing them down. They finally had a pair of chances to test their power play against the Bruins as the visitors took back-to-back penalties before the period expired.

The Jets mustered a few quality chances but with very little room to move, the Bruins did an excellent job of shutting the special team down.

After two periods were in the books, the Bruins led 27-20 in shots. Through 40 minutes, Little has seen the most ice time out of all the forwards at 14:09.

THIRD PERIOD

Shawn Thornton tied the game up for the Bruins at 3:16 of the third period. It started when Gregory Campbell stole the puck from Jason Jaffray inside the Jets zone. Campbell passed it to Daniel Paille who took the shot on net. Thornton was in front of Pavelec to make the deflection into the back of the net.

Just under five minutes into the period, David Krejci connected on a huge hit with Mark Stuart into the end boards resulting in a boarding penalty. Stuart dropped to the ice and laid there motionless for a few minutes. He finally came to his feet and skated off the ice and into the dressing room for assessment. The hit caused tempers to flare as Stuarts teammates weren't impressed with the play.

Little answered right back for the Jets at 4:50. After winning the faceoff in the neutral zone, he took the puck up ice alone and flew across the blueline. He took a look to his right but decided to take the shot and wired a snap shot right over Rask's glove side. 2-1 Jets.

The Bruins came close in the dying seconds of regulation but Pavelec was determined to get the two points so he shut the door on everything else thrown his way.

Shots after 60 minutes were 40-35 in favour of Boston.
