Capitals-Jets Preview

It took a little time, but the Jets are feeling comfortable at home in Winnipeg.

The Jets look to extend their season-high home winning streak to six games when they face the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.

Relocated from Atlanta, the Jets (14-12-4) lost three of their first five games in Winnipeg. However, after getting accustomed to their new surroundings and fan base, the Jets have won five in a row and eight of nine to improve to 10-4-0 at the MTS Centre.

Bryan Little scored his 11th goal with 5 minutes left in regulation of a 2-1 win over Minnesota on Tuesday to extend the franchise's longest home winning streak since a six-game run Nov. 19-Dec. 6, 2010 in Atlanta.

"If we can get this to be a tough place to play in, which it obviously is, then it's going to be huge for us," said winger Blake Wheeler, who has two goals and 11 assists in his last 12 games.

Winnipeg has outscored its opponents 13-6 while going 5-0 at home in December.

Defenseman Zach Bogosian scored his first of the season and Ondrej Pavelec made 34 saves to help the Jets knock off the Western Conference-leading Wild for their ninth win in 13 games overall.

"It's a big win for us because it's not easy to beat them," said Pavelec, who has a 1.00 goals-against average during his personal four-game home winning streak. "We know we can beat those teams."

Winnipeg beat the Capitals 4-1 at home Nov. 17, and also earned a point in a 4-3 overtime loss at Washington (15-13-1) on Nov. 23.

Little, who looks to score in his fifth straight game, has a goal and an assist versus Washington this season. Pavelec, meanwhile, has posted a 1.19 GAA during a 4-0-1 stretch against the Capitals.

After losing five straight away from home, Washington will try for a second consecutive road win. The Capitals won 5-3 at Ottawa on Dec. 7 - their first victory in five games in Canada this season.

They followed that by beating Toronto 4-2 on Friday, but fell 5-1 to visiting Philadelphia on Tuesday. Jeff Halpern scored late in the third period as Washington fall to 3-4-0 since Dale Hunter replaced the fired Bruce Boudreau as coach.

"It happens in the game," Hunter told the Capitals' official website. "We got to learn to rebound from it, learn from it and come back."

The defeat was even more frustrating considering the Capitals scored nine goals in their previous two games. They went 5 of 10 on the power play in those victories, but failed on all three chances with the man-advantage Tuesday.

"It was a pretty bad game for all of us," said Alex Ovechkin, who has one power-play point - an assist - in his last 18 games. "I don't think we had that kind of energy and emotion we had before."

Ovechkin has just one assist in his last three games against the Jets.

Hunter is uncertain if Tomas Vokoun will be in net after he was pulled Tuesday for allowing four goals on 21 shots. He made 22 saves in the Capitals' home victory over the Jets last month.
