Jets-Islanders Preview
Winnipeg Jets vs. New York Islanders

With another disappointing season winding down, the New York Islanders are at least hoping to leave a positive impression on their fans during Thursday night's home finale.

Doing so, however, could prove difficult against a Winnipeg Jets team that's experienced plenty of recent success at Nassau Coliseum.

New York (33-36-11), which hasn't made a postseason appearance since 2006-07, was eliminated from contention with Saturday's 6-3 loss to Boston.

The Islanders find themselves on the verge of dropping four straight in regulation for the first time all season after falling 5-1 to Ottawa on Sunday and 3-1 at New Jersey on Tuesday.

Matt Moulson scored his team-leading 35th goal Tuesday while Al Montoya made 17 saves. Montoya, who has a 4.36 goals-against average while starting each of the last three games, is hoping to see New York finish strong.

"We've done it through stretches of the year," he said. "We know what type of team we can be when we are consistent and give that effort that everyone expects out of us and we expect out of ourselves. That's what we hope for and that's what we will bring to our fans on Thursday night."

The Islanders have taken two of three from Winnipeg (37-34-9) this season, with their only loss coming 3-0 at home Nov. 3. The Jets franchise has averaged 3.86 goals in going 5-1-1 over its last seven visits to Long Island.

While Winnipeg was also eliminated from playoff contention Saturday with a 3-2 overtime loss at Tampa Bay, the Jets posted a 5-4 come-from-behind overtime win at Southeast Division-leading Florida on Tuesday.

After falling behind 3-0, Winnipeg scored four straight goals and won on Andrew Ladd's second tally 3:12 into OT.

"To say it's not tough to get motivated and find a way to get up, would be a lie," said Ladd, who has one goal in six career road meetings against New York.

"It's something we talked about. Playing for each other and owing it to ourselves to finish this up the right way and do the right things. After a bit of a rough start, I think we started to do those right things."

Ondrej Pavelec made 34 saves in winning for the second time in his last eight games. He has a 3.96 GAA over that stretch.

Pavelec is 3-4-1 with a 2.59 GAA versus the Islanders. He turned away 34 shots in the Nov. 3 win.

Left wing Evander Kane scored and added an assist in that matchup for his only points in 11 meetings with the Islanders. Kane also scored Tuesday, giving him 11 goals and 13 assists in his last 22 games.

The Islanders have allowed 23 goals in going 1-4-1 over their last six at home.

These teams conclude their seasons Saturday, when the Jets host the Lightning and the Islanders visit Columbus.
