KINGS (1-0-0) at JETS (1-0-0)
TV: FS-W; TSN-Jets
Season series: The Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, both of whom are now members of the Western Conference, will meet three times this season. They haven't faced off since the Jets' 1-0 overtime victory at MTS Centre on Dec. 29, 2011, in the Kings' only visit to Winnipeg since the franchise relocated from Atlanta after the 2010-11 season.
Big story: The Jets figure to get a rousing welcome from a packed house as they return for their home opener after a 5-4 road victory against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. The Kings come to Winnipeg for the second half of a back-to-back after rallying for a 3-2 shootout victory Thursday night that spoiled the Minnesota Wild's season opener.
Kings: Jonathan Quick made 27 saves through 65 minutes and two more in the shootout as the Kings beat the Wild. But it was a stop by forward Trevor Lewis in the final minute of regulation that gave L.A. the chance to get two points. Quick was down and out during a scramble, but Lewis dove and blocked Matt Cooke's shot into what looked like a wide-open net.
"I just tried to make myself big and it hit me. I think it was a pretty good butterfly," Lewis said. "They said I looked like a roller hockey goalie out there."
The Kings are trying to sweep their season-opening two-game trip before playing their home opener against the New York Rangers on Monday night.
Jets: Winnipeg has had two days off following an emotional win at Edmonton, a game in which the Jets trailed 4-2 before scoring three unanswered goals. Rookies Mark Scheifele and Jacob Trouba scored for the Jets, who will be trying to win a home opener for the first time in three tries since moving to Manitoba.
"It's always exciting to have your home opener in front of your fans," captain Andrew Ladd said. "They're excited after a long summer and so are the players. We're looking to build off that first win in Edmonton and get better."
Injury report: The Kings report no injuries. … Winnipeg defenseman Grant Clitsome missed practice Thursday with an undisclosed injury and is likely to sit out.
