Devils and Jets look to end losing streaks
New Jersey Devils vs. Winnipeg Jets

DEVILS (0-2-3) at JETS (2-3-0)

Season series: This will be the first of two between the New Jersey Devils and Winnipeg Jets this season. Last season, the Jets won two of three games against the Devils, taking five of six points. They next play on Nov. 25 in New Jersey.

Big story: The Devils are still looking for their first win of the season after suffering their fifth-straight loss Friday night in Calgary, falling to the Flames, 3-2. This will be the second game for the Jets on a season-high six game homestand.

Team scope:

Devils: Already a franchise-record five games into the season without a win, the Devils blew two one-goal leads to the Flames. It was the fourth game in a row they blew a lead. New Jersey led 2-0 in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Canucks on Tuesday, and had a 3-0 lead over the Oilers before sustaining a 5-4 shootout loss on Monday. In the game prior to that, the Devils had leads of 1-0 and 2-0 over the Islanders before falling 4-3 in a shootout.

"We've got guys in the room there, veteran guys that know how to win games, and we have to execute and win games," coach Peter DeBoer told after the game. "That's the bottom line. We are not getting it done."

The game will be a homecoming for Travis Zajac, who was born in Winnipeg.

Jets: After starting the season with two wins, the Jets have dropped their past three games. Friday night, it was a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars who overpowered the Jets with three goals in a seven-minute stretch in the first period.

"We just made a few mistakes that ended up costing us," Blake Wheeler told the team's website. "You blink your eye, and it's 3-0 going on 4-0. It snowballed a little bit out of control and that was the disappointing part, we weren't able to put a stop to it in time to get ourselves back in the game."

Ondrej Pavlec was voted the game's third star, making 27 saves on 31 shots. He kept the Jets in the game with 12 first-period saves.

"I thought we made some mistakes in the first period and with those kinds of mistakes, we can't expect that our goaltending's going to save us like it has in the previous games," coach Claude Noel said. "I thought that the mistakes we made were correctable mistakes. We should have been smarter, and we should have been better in those areas."

Who's hot: Dainius Zubrus, who had one of the Devils' two goals Friday, leads the team with a plus-4 rating. … Bryan Little has points in four of the Jets' five games this season (three goals, one assist).

Injury report: The Devils may be without Ryan Carter (upper body), who did not play Friday. ... Wing Chris Thorborn (lower body) missed Friday's game and is day-to-day for the Jets.
