PREDATORS (8-5-2) at JETS (6-9-2)
TV: SPSO, TSN-JETS
Last 10: Nashville 6-1-3; Winnipeg 3-5-2
Season series: The Nashville Predators and Winnipeg Jets meet for the third time this season, with the Predators winning the first two games by scores of 3-1 and 3-2. Carter Hutton is 2-0 with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .960 save percentage and Patric Hornqvist has a goal in each game.
Big story: After scoring 14 goals in seven games, the Predators have matched that total in their past three games. In fact, they have scored at least four goals in three straight games for the first time since doing so in four straight early in the 2010-11 season.
Predators: The Predators handed the Colorado Avalanche their second loss of the season in a 6-4 road victory Wednesday. Colin Wilson almost doubled his point total. He had five points entering the game, before adding two goals and two assists for Nashville, now 2-0-1 on a seven-game road trip.
"It was so much fun. I had a lot of fun trading chances. It's not the kind of game coaches want to see, but at the same time it was entertaining," said Wilson, who scored the eventual game-winner.
Nashville has been one of the surprise teams thus far and has been winning lately without two-time Vezina trophy finalist Pekka Rinne, who is on injured reserve recovering from an infection in his hip.
"It was a big win here. This is an extremely good team with some dangerous guys and we were able to keep them at bay. They got some good looks, but not enough. Our forwards were really good tonight. They got challenged a little bit and they responded," coach Barry Trotz said.
Jets: Winnipeg has lost seven of nine after falling to the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-1 on Wednesday. Chicago scored three goals in five minutes spanning the first and second periods to take 3-0 lead. The Blackhawks also beat the Jets 5-1 last week.
"We've given up nine goals in two games [to the Blackhawks]. Do we need to give up another four or five the next time to recognize this is what they can do?" coach Claude Noel said after the game. "I understand we're not perfect, but those things hurt you. Your puck management has to be great."
The Jets were coming off a 4-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday and haven't won two in a row since the first two games of the season.
"[The Blackhawks] had a good game plan and we weren't able to create ways to get around them," Blake Wheeler told the Jets website. "When they do that, it makes it really tough."
Who's hot: Devin Setoguchi has three of his eight points this season in the past two games for Winnipeg. … David Legwand has three goals and four assists in three games and Mattias Ekholm has recorded an assist in four straight games for Nashville.
Injury report: In addition to Rinne, forwards Matt Hendricks (upper body) and Mike Fisher (lower body) both missed Wednesday's game for the Predators. … Evander Kane (lower body) missed Wednesday's game, and Jim Slater (undisclosed), Jacob Trouba (upper body), Paul Postma (blood clot) and Mart Stuart (hip) are all on injured reserve for the Jets.
