The Winnipeg Jets out shot the Rangers 28-17, but 15 penalty minutes resulted in the blueshirts scoring twice on the power play which made the difference in the Rangers 2-1 victory Monday night in Winnipeg.

Nik Antropov was the lone goal scorer late in the second period which tied the game at one but Ryan Callahan would tally the game winner in the third.

Chris Mason turned aside 15 of 17 shots while Martin Biron kicked away 27 of 28 which earned him the first star of the night.

The Jets slide to a 2-5-1 record as they head on the road for a seven game road-trip in 14-days beginning in Philadelphia on Thursday, October 27th.

FIRST PERIOD

Five seconds shy of the two minute mark of the first period, Tanner Glass and Brandon Prust decided to give the building an early spark dropping the gloves in the neutral zone. The pair danced for a couple of minutes each landing solid right hooks before they were torn apart by the refs and dished five minute fighting majors.

The Rangers were handed the first power play chance of the game with Blake Wheeler off for hooking at 4:52. The blueshirts put the pressure on and managed a pair of quality shots on net but the Jets penalty kill shut the door.

The pace was fairly slow as the period played on with the Jets only posting four shots on net after 15 minutes of play and the Rangers held to just two. The Jets would get a power play chance of their own at 14:34 as Ruslan Fedotenko went to the bin for holding the stick. The power play was cut short as Antropov got caught with his stick up too high. Both teams however were able to kill off the power plays and the game remained scoreless as time expired on the first period of play. Jets led 8-3 on the shotclock.

SECOND PERIOD

The pace picked up in the first few minutes of the second period- maybe a little too quick as Dustin Byfuglien was sent to the penalty box for tripping at 4:51. The Rangers capitalized on the man advantage as Dan Girardi wired a slap shot from the point that was redirected by Fedotenko into the back of the net to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

The Jets turned up the heat and were all over the Rangers in the second half of the period with chances galore.

Antropov was able to finally get one past Biron after a takeaway in the Rangers zone. Burmistrov and Kane battled for a loose puck and managed to set up Antropov inside the left circle. Antro fired the puck in a split second fooling Biron to tie the game 1-1 with 5:31 to play.

After 40 minutes, the Jets led 15-10 on the shotclock.

THIRD PERIOD

The Jets broke out of the gates with one thing on their mind- get pucks on net. That is exactly what they accomplished as they peppered Biron with pucks from every angle from every player on the ice keeping the pressure down low for several minutes.

The Rangers were finally able to clear the puck from their zone and race down the ice. Unfortunately, they were able to draw a tripping penalty on the play and give themselves a power play which they took full advantage of.

Ryan Callahan fired a wide shot on net that banked off of Bogosian's foot and past Mason into the back of the net to give the Rangers their second lead of the night. 2-1 Rangers with 11:19 to play in regulation.

Winnipeg tried to push back as they continued to fire away but Biron made some key saves to keep his team ahead.

Time ran out for the Jets as they fell 2-1 to the Rangers and slide to 2-5-1 on the season. The will look now to their long seven game road-trip beginning Thursday night in Philadelphia.

Catch that game at 6:00 pm on TSN-Jets or listen on TSN Radio 1290.
