Jets fall 4-3 in OT

recorded a goal and an assist to help the Winnipeg Jets earn a point in Washington against the Capitals but it wasn't enough, as the Capitals finish things and take the extra point in overtime.

kicked aside 33 of 37 shots on net tonight in his 13th consecutive start while Tomas Vokoun turned away 22 of 25 for the win.

The Capitals got on the board just 5:23 into the first period as Alex Ovechkin beat Dustin Byfuglien
at the blueline creating a 2-on-1 opportunity with Alexander Semin. Ovechkin set up Semin in the slot and he blasted a slap shot past Ondrej Pavelec
. 1-0 Caps.
With 6:39 on the clock in the first period, Andrew Ladd
tied the game thanks to a beauty cross-ice pass from Nik Antropov
on a 2-on-1 down low. Kyle Wellwood
did a great job of tying up two Capitals along the boards giving Antropov and Ladd room finish the play.
It took just 12 seconds for the Capitals to regain their lead as Jason Chimera redirected a shot from Brooks Laich that soared past Pavelec to make it 2-1.
The scoring didn't end there as Wellwood found the equalizer with 3:30 to play. Zach Bogosian
wired a slap shot from the point that shot out onto Ladds' stick. Ladd dished the rebound over to Wellwood open down low to the left of Tomas Vokoun who sent a wrister into the net.
After 20 minutes, the Jets and Caps were tied 2-2 and shots were 10-9 Jets.
The Capitals were back on top for the third time in this game just 3:08 into the middle frame. There was a little confusion down low in front of Pavelec. Alzner took a shot on net that spit out to Nicklas Backstrom who backhanded the rebound into the back of the net to make it 3-2 Capitals.
The Jets were handed a 5-on-3 power play with Mathieu Perreault and Mike Knuble in the box for the Capitals but they could not capitalize on the advantage and the game remained 3-2 with just over six minutes to play in the second period.
The period would come to an end with the Capitals holding on to their 3-2 lead thanks to Backstrom's goal, and on top of the shot clock 23-19 moving into the final period.
The Winnipeg Jets handed the Capitals their third power play of the night at 2:16 of the third period as Mark Stuart
got the game for holding the stick. The Caps had a chance or two on the man advantage but were unable to solve Pavelec and the Jets penalty killers and the game remained 3-2.
The pace of the game seemed to dissolve quickly in the third period compared to the fast, end to end action we had seen through the first 40 minutes. At the midway mark of the final frame, the shots on net were only 4-2 in favour of the home team.

raced across the blueline into the Capitals zone and found Little inside the left circle. Little snapped a wrist shot stunning Vokoun from a sharp angle.
Just seconds before Little tied things up, the Mike Knuble scored on Pavelec but the goal was disallowed due to goaltender interference and the game continued.
Time wound down on the third period and with the game still tied 3-3, to OT we went.
Just 1:52 into OT, Jason Chimera tipped in the winner back door on Pavelec. Little tried to clear the puck out of the zone but backhanded the puck right onto Dennis Wideman's stick who was able to find Chimera in the crease to the left of Pavelec.
The Jets took the point in this one and will look forward to their next game in Carolina on Friday night. Game time goes at 6:00 pm and can be seen on TSN-Jets or heard on TSN Radio 1290.
