Blake Wheeler tallied a pair of goals to help shutout the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 Thursday at the MTS Centre. Tanner Glass and Tim Stapleton also added goals as the Jets improve their December home record to 7-1-1.

Ondrej Pavelec was impressive yet again for the home team as he recorded his third shutout of the season stopping all 27 shots thrown his way. He also added an assist in the game.

The Jets will look to their next opponent tomorrow night as the Pittsburgh Penguins are in town before the Christmas break.

Just 2:43 into the game, Hal Gill took a four-minute highsticking major. It took just 24 seconds for Blake Wheeler to take advantage of his mistake. Enstrom blasted a shot from the point that Price turned away. Byfuglien picked up the rebound and passed to Wheeler waiting by the back door. Price tried to get across his net in time to make the save but had no chance on Wheelers shot. 1-0 Jets.

Tanner Glass made it 2-0 at 13:13. Kyle Wellwood made a nice pass up to Nik Antropov down low in the Canadiens zone. Antropov looked like he was going to shoot but decided to set up Glass in the slot that proved to be a great choice. Glass snapped the puck past Price to tie his career high in goals and points with four goals, seven assists.

After 20 minutes, the Jets led 2-0 and 13-6 on the shot clock.

Wheeler kept rolling into the second period, as he widened the gap picking up his second of the night just 39 seconds into the second. Ron Hainsey got the puck to Wheeler after Alexander Burmistrov won the face-off for the Jets. Wheeler raced down the right wing into the Canadiens zone and blasted a wrist shot from inside the circle that beat Price stick-side. 3-0 Jets.

Later in the period, Chris Thorburn took a four-minute highsticking major but Pavelec and the penalty-killers did an excellent job of shutting the door on the struggling Habs to stay on top by three. They followed that four minute kill with another two minute PK after Mark Stuart got the gate for interference.

After two periods of play, the Jets led 3-0 and the Canadiens were on top 22-21 in shots.

The pace slowed down in the third period for both teams. The Jets had the Habs exactly where they wanted them and were able to hold them there through the first 15 minutes of the final period. The refs stashed the whistles in their pockets as neither team took a penalty in the third period.

The Canadiens looked deflated for most of the evening possibly due to the fact that they played in Chicago last night and were a little worn out. Whatever the reason was, they were staring their fifth consecutive loss in the face.

Things went from bad to worse with 2:24 left in regulation as Tim Stapleton made it 4-0. Wheeler dug the puck out of the corner and found an easy pass onto the stick of Stapleton who was standing right in front of Price to tap in the game's fourth goal.

That's how things would end in this one as the Jets defeated the Habs 4-0 Thursday night in Winnipeg.
