The Jets and Penguins were all knotted at 1-1 after forty minutes of play but three unanswered goals in the third period proved to be the story in the game as the Penguins defeated the home team Jets by a score of 4-1.

Alexander Burmistrov scored the Jets lone goal of the night and Ondrej Pavelec stopped 35 of 39 shots on goal in the loss. The Jets trailed significantly in the shots department for the entire game and the final shot clock read 39-19 Penguins.

Joe Vitale, Jordan Staal, James Neal and Pascal Dupuis were the goal scorers for the Penguins tonight.

The Jets will look ahead and try to put this one behind them moving into the Christmas break. They will rejoin on Boxing Day to depart to Colorado to face the Avalanche on December 27th.

Game time is 8:00 pm on TSN Jets or TSN Radio 1290.

FIRST PERIOD

Nik Antropov took the first penalty of the night just over the three minute mark. The Jets penalty unit did a good job of taking away any chances the Pens tried to muster up. With eight seconds left in Antropov's penalty, the Jim Slater stole the puck and raced up ice all alone. He snapped the puck on net that just got a piece of the crossbar and went wide.

Near the ten minute mark of the period, Tanner Glass and Arron Asham decided to spark the crowd as they dropped the gloves at centre ice for a good even fight.

Joe Vitale got the Penguins on the board first with 6:01 to play in the opening period. Alexandre Picard fired a slap shot from the top of the circle that found its way through traffic and on goal. Pavelec made the save but Vitale was there to tap in the rebound. 1-0 Pens.

After 20 minutes, the Pens led 1-0 on the score board and 14-5 on the shot clock.

SECOND PERIOD

The period started off a little slow as the Jets only managed a pair of shots through the first nine minutes of play but things turned around at 9:11.

Blake Wheeler sent a perfect cross-ice pass onto the tape of Alexander Burmistrov who blasted the puck from the left circle into a wide open net to tie the game. Evander Kane picked up the second assist on the play.

The Jets killed off another minor penalty before the period came to an end with Byfuglien in the box for slashing at 16:58.

After two periods in the books, the Jets and Pens were all tied at 1-1 but the Pens still led 26-12 in shots.

THIRD PERIOD

It took James Neal 22 seconds to get his team back on top  2-1, as Evgeni Malkin made a diving pass over to Neal in the slot who sent a snap shot over the arm of Pavelec beating him stick side. 2-1 early in the third.

Jordan Staal widened the Pens gap on the power play at 4:14 as Chris Kunitz sent a perfect set-up pass in the slot that Pavelec didn't have much of a chance on.

Just 50 seconds later, Pascal Dupuis made it 4-1 after the Jets turned over the puck by the Pens blueline. Dupuis ran with it and sent a wrist shot from the top of the circle that beating Pavelec blocker side.

Thats how this one would end as the Penguins defeat the Jets for the second time this season by a score of 4-1 at the MTS Centre.

The Jets will take two days off for the Chrismas break before heading on the road to Denver for one game on December 27th.
