The "line" that head coach Claude Noel has been talking about has finally been crossed as the Jets are finally in 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. Now the trick is to sty above that line.

Evander Kane led the Jets with two goals, Tim Stapleton tallied a goal and an assist and Jim Slater notched the fourth, as the Jets walked away from the Mile High city with two points.

Kevin Porter scored the lone goal for the Avalanche in the loss.

Ondrej Pavelec was excellent again as he stopped 32 of 33 shots on net.

The Jets will return home to take on the LA Kings on Thursday night and then the Toronto Maple Leafs on New Years Eve.

Catch the game Thursday on TSN Jets at 7:30 pm.

FIRST PERIOD

The Jets broke out of the gates taking short shifts in their first time in the altitude city. The Avalanche kept puck possession for the majority of the first ten minutes forcing the Jets to take their short shifts in their own zone and pushing hard on the forecheck.

The Jets got the lucky bounce that they were looking for as they capitalized on an Avs mistake which quickly turned into a two-on-one opportunity. Evander Kane snapped his seven-game goal-less streak with Blake Wheeler on the odd-man rush as he blasted the puck past Jean-Sebastien Giguere at 16:37 of the first period. 1-0 Jets. Burmistrov picked up the second assist on the play.

After 20 minutes of play, the Jets led on the scoreboard 1-0 but the Avs led 11-5 in shots.

SECOND PERIOD

The Jets took off in the second period as the Avs took a penalty in the first minute. Toby Enstrom wired the initial shot from just inside the blueline that Giguere turned aside. The puck shot out to Andrew Ladd who flipped the puck to Tim Stapleton who tossed it into the wide open cage. 2-0 Jets.

Kane added to the lead at 14:52 as he broke up-ice on a break-away. Giguere kicked that one to the corner where Kane picked up his rebound and got it to Thorburn behind the net. Kane made his way to the front of the net where Thorburn found him open to finish what he started. 3-0 Jets.

After two periods, the Jets led the Avs 3-0 but trailed 25-18 in shots.

THIRD PERIOD

Winnipeg kept rolling into the third period as Jim Slater widened the gap to 4-0 at 3:41 as he picked up his seventh of the season. With a little miscommunication behind the net between Giguere and his d-man, Glass stole the puck and was able to pass it in front for Slater who was falling down in the play but managed to get the puck passed a stunned Avs goaltender.

Even though the tired Avalanche played last night in Minnesota and arrived back home late last night, they didn't give up in this match. Kevin Porter got Colorado on the board at 14:48 of the final frame snapping Pavelec's shutout.

That was not enough to claw back as the Jets prevailed to a 4-1 victory in Denver on Tuesday night. With the win, the Jets move into a playoff spot for the first time this season.

They will head back home to take on the LA Kings on Thursday night at the MTS Centre. Game time is 7:30 pm on that one.
