It took 61:09 minutes of play for either team to find the back of the net and get the desired two points tonight. Scoreless after 60 minutes, Kane finished things off as he net the game's only goal, putting the Jets up 1-0 in overtime.

Not only did Kane tally the game winner tonight but he played with intensity and physicality. He connected on seven hits tonight, took five shots on net, and blocked four.

Chris Mason was superb stopping all 31 shots thrown at him picking up a much deserved shutout.

The Jets will look to their last game of the year as the Toronto Maple Leafs visit the MTS Centre in a popular New Years Eve matchup. Catch that one on CBC Hockey Night in Canada at 6:00 pm.

FIRST PERIOD

With Slater  and Bryan Little out of the lineup, Tim Stapleton and Nik Antropov have to take the majority of the face-offs for the Jets. Through the first half of the first period, Stapleton went 3 for 3 on the dot while Antropov went 0-3. The Jets led 6-4 on the shot clock at the midway mark of the period.

As expected, under new coach Darryl Sutter, the Kings came out hard and physical. After 15 minutes of play, the Kings connected for 14 hits to the Jets six.

Alexander Burmistrov took the first penalty of the night at 17:39 for tripping but the Jets shut the door on the Kings PP.

After 20 minutes of play, the Kings led 13-9 on the shot clock but the game was scoreless.

SECOND PERIOD

Just over the seven minute mark of the second, Jack Johnson leveled Stapleton in the slot with what looked to be his shoulder or elbow. Evander Kane did not like the hit and immediately stuck up for his teammate and went after Johnson. Oddly enough, after what looked like a regular fight, each player only received a roughing penalty.

The penalties continued from there as the Jets box began to get a little squishy. Zach Bogosian got the gate for holding and only a few seconds later, Mark Stuart took a high-sticking minor giving the Kings a two-man advantage for 1:52. Mason was sharp stopping all shots thrown at him and shutting the door to keep his team in it and the game scoreless. The solid kill brought the MTS crowd to their feet in appreciation.

Ac lose call for Mason in the dying minutes of the period as he watched the puck fly past him, hit the post and fly out. He thanked his post and moved on with the scoreless game. That's how the period would end - still scoreless. The Kings led 25-17 in shots.

THIRD PERIOD

The Jets were handed a glorious two-man power play opportunity that started just 3:45 into the final period but the solid penalty-killing of the Kings shut down the Jets. The Kings have allowed just seven goals in 67 attempts, good enough for 89% (3rd in the NHL).

Time ticked away on the game....shots were fired, penalties were served but it was going to take longer than 60 minutes to determine who would take the extra point in this one.

OVERTIME

It took 1:09 seconds for Kane to say enough is enough in this scoreless battle and put the puck into the back of the net to give the Jets the 1-0 win.

Kane took a pass from Wheeler breaking in on the LA net. He wound up and fired a wrist shot that Jonathan Bernier kicked out. Wheeler got the bouncing rebound and passed it to Ron Hainsey who batted it out of the air and got the puck to Kane who was back in scoring position. Kane tipped home his second effort on the play to give the Jets the extra point.
