The Winnipeg Jets tried to bounce back from their disappointing 7-3 loss in Montreal Wednesday night but the Leafs got the best of them, scoring early goals in the first, second and twice in the third period; to prevail to a 4-0 victory in Toronto.

Chris Mason picked up his first loss in his last five starts for the Jets. He stopped 21 of 25 shots on net. Jonas Gustavsson stopped all 24 of the shots he faced to pick up the shutout.

The Jets will hit the road tonight to Buffalo, NY where they will face the Sabres on Saturday night. Game time for that one is 6:00 pm on CBC.

FIRST PERIOD

The Jets came out hungry to bounce back from their 7-3 loss last night in Montreal and did a good job up until 4:59 into the game. Phil Kessel beat Zach Bogosian to the front of the net and chipped in a nice pass from Joffrey Lupul. Kessel's 23rd of the season put the Leafs up 1-0 early.

The Leafs continued to keep the pressure on the Jets through the remainder of the opening frame but the scoreboard still read 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. The Leafs led 8-6 in shots but the Jets led 16-10 in the hit department.

SECOND PERIOD

Tim Connolly widened the gap to 2-0 at just 1:22 of the second period on a delayed penalty. Chris Mason stopped the initial shot but the rebound spit out right onto Connolly's stick and he snapped it right back at him to make it 2-0.

The Jets killed off the penalty that followed the goal. With the kill they have killed off 22 of the last 24 times they have been shorthanded.

Through the first ten minutes of play, the Jets did not manage to create any sort of scoring chance. They switched gears during the second half and began putting pressure on the Leafs. Alexander Burmistrov had the period's best chance as he fired the puck into the crossbar and off the post, just missing the wide open net to get the Jets within one.

Shots after two periods were 15-14 Leafs. Toronto is 13-0 when leading after two periods while the Jets are 0-12-2 when trailing after two periods

THIRD PERIOD

The Jets early period woes continued into the third period as the Leafs struck again. This time just 3:38 into the final period, Mikhail Grabovski connected with a nifty pass from Nikolai Kulemin in the slot. Ron Hainsey attempted to block the shot but Grabovski lifted his shot up and over Hainsey and up under the crossbar of Mason's net. 3-0 Leafs.

The Leafs kept coming as Clarke MacArthur stretched the lead to 4-0 at 10:37 of the final period on the power play from a nice feed from Grabovski.

The Jets finally got their first power play of the night at 12:22 as Matthew Lombardi got the gate for tripping, but the power play unit couldn't solve Leafs netminder Jonas Gustavsson.

That's how this one would end, with the Leafs on top 4-0. Shots were 25-24 in favour of the home team.

Winnipeg is back in action in Buffalo on Saturday night. Puck drops at 6:00 pm on CBC.
