After dropping back-to-back games against the Sharks and Bruins, today's matchup with the Devils was a must win for the Jets. Unfortunately, even though they battled until the bitter end, one goal was not enough as the Devils derailed the Jets 2-1 at the MTS Centre Saturday afternoon.

Andrew Ladd started things off for the Jets scoring a beauty on Martin Brodeur with 1:29 left in the first period. Things were looking good heading to the third period but the "third period woes" followed the Jets again into this one.

Kurtis Foster and Patrik Elias each scored three minutes apart midway through the third period to give the Devils the 2-1 lead which they held onto tightly to secure the win.

Ondrej Pavelec was superb again stopping 22 of 24 shots thrown his way. Brodeur also turned aside 22 of his 23 shots.

The Jets will hit the road tomorrow for a pair of games starting in Ottawa on Monday followed by New Jersey on Tuesday night.

FIRST PERIOD

With a slow start to the game through the first nine minutes and the shots reading 3-1 Devils, the Jets had to get their crowd behind them and on their feet. So, Mark Stuart stepped up to bat and dropped the gloves with Ryan Carter at 8:26 of the opening period. Carter got an extra roughing major out of the deal as the two dangled along the boards behind the net.

Andrew Ladd drew first blood in the game with 1:29 left in the third period. Ladd took a nice feed from Johnny Oduya and raced up the left wing into the Devils zone. With Nik Antropov with him, Ladd took once look at Brodeur and wired a hard wrist shot that beat veteran Martin Brodeur glove side.

After twenty minutes, the Jets went to the dressing room up 1-0 on the Devils. Shots were 7-6 for the Devils.

SECOND PERIOD

Not too much to speak of in terms of scoring in this defensive-mided game but Ondrej Pavelec did manage to rob the Devils of their best chance of the game just over the 11-minute mark.

Henrik Tallinder was flying through centre ice and took a nice feed in the slot. Tallinder snapped a shot on net and Pavelec was able to stretch across his net just in time to get his right pad on the puck to kick away and keep the Jets up by one.

The Devils lead 16-12 in shots after two periods of play. Both teams have played physical yet disciplined for the most part. Hits read 26-25 in favour of the Devils.

THIRD PERIOD

The Devils got got a lucky bounce right off the face-off in the Jets zone to the right of Pavelec. Dainius Zubrus won the draw against Jim Slater and the puck shot behind him right onto the stick of Kurtis Foster. He got himself  into position to get a clear shot and released a quick one that stunned Pavelec short-side. All of the sudden, it was 1-1 at 9:45 of the thid period.

Moments later, Patrik Elias gave the Devils their first lead of the night. Petr Sykora started the play by digging the puck out from behind the net and sending a long cross-ice feed to Adam Larsson on the point. Larsson fired a slap shot connected with Elias who was waiting by the left post to redirect the puck and finish the play.

Sykora's assist on the play marked the 700th point of his NHL career.

Minutes later, Elias was awarded a penalty shot as Ron Hainsey tripped up Elias on a breakaway but Pavelec was there to poke that one away and keep his team down by just one.

The Jets turned up the heat trying everything they could to tie the game but unfortunately they dropped a 2-1 final to the Devils.
