The Winnipeg Jets paid a visit to New York to face the Rangers for the third time this season before they head to the All-Star break. Desperate for a full two points, the Jets came out with energy and determination. They played a very hard and physical game however, they ran into yet another hot goaltender in Henrik Lundqvist.

The Rangers net goals in each of the three periods and took 31 shots on Ondrej Pavelec. The Jets had 22 shots on net but couldn't solve Lundqvist, as they were shutout for the second time this season by a score of 3-0.

The Jets will fly back to Winnipeg and take a five-day break for the NHL All-Star, and then regroup before they hit the road for a four-game road-trip starting in Philadelphia on Tuesday. They will continue on to Tampa Bay, Florida and Montreal.

The puck drops on the Jets @ Flyers at 6:00 pm on TSN Jets.

FIRST PERIOD

The Rangers struck first just under the five minute mark of the opening frame as Ryan Callahan capitalized on a Jets defensive turnover from Anton Stralman and Brian Boyle. 1-0 New York.

Chris Thorburn and Mike Rupp dropped the gloves less than two minutes later in an attempt to boost their team's energy. Thorburn, shaken up in the tussle, went off to the dressing room holding his right shoulder. He returned later in the period, thankfully.

After twenty minutes of play, the Rangers led 11-6 in shots and 1-0 on the scoreboard.

SECOND PERIOD

Jim Slater gave the Rangers the game's first power play of the night as he went to the box for interference 36 seconds into the second period. The Rangers had a few close calls and Boyle rang one off the post, but the score remained 1-0.

Thorburn and Rupp decided to drop the gloves for a second round of the night. Thorburn ended up on top to end the fight, again.

The Rangers add to their lead at 13:22 of the period just as a Eric Fehr's penalty had expired. John Mitchell took a nice feed from Michael Del Zotto, and wired a hard wrist shot from inside the left circle that just beat Ondrej Pavelec top corner. 2-0 Rangers.

The Jets were handed their first power play of the night but failed to convert on the opportunity and went to the dressing room down 2-0. The shots after two were 19-12 Rangers.

THIRD PERIOD

The Jets didn't give themselves much of a chance in the early goings of the final period as they had to serve back-to-back penalties first to Fehr then to Wheeler, both for high-sticking.

That took them to the midway point of the period- still lots of time to even things up but they'd need some bounces against a team that doesn't allow very many goals.

That idea didn't really pay off as Brad Richards made it 3-0 at 16:22. Callahan dug the puck out of the corner and passed to Richards in the slot. Richards snapped a quick one on net that beat Pavelec.

Coach Claude Noel called a timeout moments after the goal with Rangers Marian Gaborik in the penalty box. He pulled Pavelec to give the Jets a chance to score on a six on four situation, but unfortunately, they couldn't solve Henrik Lundqvist. They drop back-to-back road games heading into the NHL All-Star break.
