It took more than 60 minutes yet again, but the Jets were able to take a well deserved two points as they downed the Lightning 2-1 in overtime.
opened the scoring but it wasn't until 15 seconds remaining in the second period. His 10th goal of the season sent the Jets to the dressing room with the momentum they needed to seal the victory in this one.
Victor Hedman evened the score for the home team in the third period from St.Louis and Stamkos.
Wheeler also had a hand in the overtime goal as he accepted a nice pass from Byfuglien and sent a beautiful pass onto the tape of Wellwood who tossed the puck into the empty net.
The Jets board the plane and are off to Fort Lauderdale to face the Panthers tomorrow night. With the win tonight, they inch closer to the Southeast Division leaders, they trail now by 3 points.
The GO-JETS-GO chants followed the Jets to Tampa Bay Florida as more than an entire section wearing Jets gear began the chants to ensure the team knew they were there, loud and proud.
6:13 into the game, the Lightning took a too many men on the ice penalty, putting the Jets power play unit to work. They had a couple shots on the advantage but could not convert a goal and the scoreless game continued.
Through 20 minutes of play, the shots were 7-6 in favour of the Jets. Bryan Little

The second period was pretty even end to end action but neither team could find the back of the net. There were not very many shots as the shot clock read 12-12 with five minutes remaining in the period.
Pavelec had to be good and make a few key saves when called upon and did an excellent job of holding onto shots and not unleashing rebounds for the Lightning fire power to scoop up.
Then, just when we thought we wouldn't see any goals, the Jets snuck in a late one with 15.2 seconds on the clock. There was time for one last rush and the Jets made it count. Ladd carried the puck across the blue line and dished a nice pass to Jim Slater
. Slater set up Wheeler to finish the play.
Wheeler's 10th of the season had the Jets up 1-0 Jets after two. Shots were 21-14 for the Lightning.
Through the first half of the third period, both teams battled hard, charging to the net more and creating solid scoring chances but both goalies have put the brick wall up and nothing was going through it.... so far anyways.
Then, at the 10:34 mark, Victor Hedman got the Bolts on the board. St.Louis raced into the Jets zone and sent a nice pass to a charging Hedman on the left wing. Hedman just beat his defender and fired a hard wrister that beat Pavelec over his shoulder. Tie game 1-1.
Time ran out on regulation with the game still scored. It would take overtime or a shootout to determine a winner
Wellwood tallied the OT winner. Byfuglien with a nice pass to Wheeler to take it across the blueline Wheeler had Wellwood with him on a 2-on-1 opportunity, he made the easy decision to pass to a wide open Wellwood to toss the puck into the wide open net at 3:14 of overtime.
